am in my fifties, high blood pressure etc. what varieties are there that have little to no "speedy" effects when smoked ? the locally available commercial is notorious for it, & i hate the very thought of having to quit after 41 years of enjoying this most noble of plants. any suggestions ? do i need to go after indica strains exclusively & let them go a mite long, looking for couch lock instead of the rush of sativas ? am open to autos, or most anything that won't make my heart act up. any suggestions welcomed, yet again.

Look into CBDs, hippy. Seems to be a real bitch to get info on it, but when you smoke it, you'll know it. From what I understand, it could even have the potential to lower heart rate after smoking.

Also, the physical effect of smoking won't help the ticker or the BP, either. Maybe releasing your draw sooner, take smaller draws, etc., may help a little. At this point, any little thing could be the difference between fucking yourself up or not.

Pure indica is no guarantee unfortunately, at least in my experience. My heart rate goes to about 90-100 bpm sometimes on sensi's maple leaf indica, even after 4-5 months of curing. Sucks as I grew those to help me get to sleep, instead they just get me high as a kite! That is supposed to be a pure landrace indica, but it hits like a hybrid. I pulled those a little early though, but not that early! Maybe there was a c99 daddy behind the woodpile or something, LOL!

I don't recall having any real tachycardia issues with my slyder plants though. I like slyder but mine are from around 8 or 9 years ago, I keep them running through selection, breeding and seeding, mine might actually be quite different now than what sagarmatha currently sells, but hey- it's a start? Hee hee... I think I'm at about f4 or f5 by now, great plants though.

I had a plant back in the early 90's that literally made you black out for 5-10 mins every hit you took. Not pass out and hit the ground, more like just suspended animation - no thought or sight or sound then it would clear to a super strong relaxing buzz after the blackout - wore off very quickly though, maybe 30-45 mins. I'd LOVE to have that plant nowadays, perfect sleepy time weed, better than ambien, but I have no clue what it was.... I keep trying though.

Edit: Oh, and make sure you get that high BP treated. I've had elevated bp since I was a kid, even back when I played football in high school and in the best shape of my life I'd be 125/85 on avg. You can get generic lisinopril for $4/month, and it works wonders. High BP does a lot more damage than you think, and is so easy to treat, but lots of people ignore it... Don't!

For me vaping gives me even more of a heady effect with less body high, I dont' think thats what you want. I'd just stick to eating that gives me a mostly body effect with little head high.

thanks for thoughtful replies, folks. have blood pressure under control w/meds, but some pot makes my heart want to jump out of my chest! NOT cool...so vaping probably aint gonna help. northern lights, hmmm. is there an auto version, or is it an autoflower ? buddy raised some autos amongst his houseplants on patio this summer, was shorter & less visible than his house plants. good tasting stuff, too. i aint looking for best pot in world, just good taste & relaxation.:whistling:

northern lights autoflower, don't think i've seen one, flower time is on the short time - 8 weeks
short strain as a rule, mine finished at 29 inches
but i do vape, really seems to a good balance, able to medicate during day and stay awake
this is just my 1st try for a stress reducing medication, sure i will find better eventually, was a nice find for a 1st grow though

Kola Radical

Make cannabis oil and take it every night. I would start with a 50/50 Sativa, Indica mix and go from there. See what works for you. I walk every day and take cannabis oil (almost) every night and my Dr. took me off of beta blockers a year ago.

Now I take nothing except cannabis... no drugs from the FDA... they will kill you.

I soak buds in Everclear... filter thru cheese cloth, then coffee filters... evaporate as much alcohol as possible, unless you want to get lit up by strong ethanol. You want sticky, oily, gunk.. not liquid alcohol.

Works for me.

Yeah, a beta blocker will probably almost completely wipe out the heart pounding problems, if you wanna try that route.

Ask your doctor to try inderal(propanolol) for your blood pressure medicine, it also relaxes your heart, tends to block migraine headaches, and also works against anxiety - not as good as a benzo, but hey it's non-addictive and most any doctor will have no prob throwing a few hundred at you... Unlike xanax, which is like getting blood from a turnip anymore, docs just don't like to give them out anymore.

Just don't take it if you have asthma, or it might trigger a nasty attack... I love the beta blockers myself, I use the little quick acting 10mg propranolol pills 2-3 times a day and it stops my physical symptoms of near crippling social anxiety DEAD in their tracks, like magic.

Blueberry family strains, this is what you want.

The pot is not making your heart beat it's the physiological effects of anxiety. The anxiety can surely be caused by many sativa based strains and those harvested early.

Your ideal strain would be Sweet Tooth (which is Sweet Pink Grapefruit & Blueberry) which I smoke and has zero effect on my heart rate, does not induce anxiety which I am very prone to having, and is a very soothing & relaxing smoke that has very good anti-depressant qualities to it and is quite "clear" and euphoric for something that is mostly Indica. If you let it fully mature to amber glands which is around 8 weeks + it can be veery sedating and quite restful to toke. I have smoked alot of different known strains of pot and it's hard to beat the qualiy of the high from a good Spice of Life Sweet Tooth, plus it flowers fast and is high yielding with alot of crystals and resin, smells like candy heaven. I post this answer at least once a day to various threads asking about something like this because I myself searched long and hard to find the right kind of weed to smoke, and I found it. :joint:

ps - I would avoid anything with C-99 as it's very "up" and racy, can induce anxiety easily

Whatever you grow it'd be best, imho, to let the plants fully mature, like you said.

Contrary to popular belief, blood pressure is slightly lowered whilst high. As strange as it may sound, heart rate may be slightly elevated but cannabis has the effect of dilating the veins & arteries, hence lowered blood pressure despite slightly elevated heart rate.

"In essence, the pump exerts a greater force and the enlarged pipes allow for greater flow. The net effect is a highly functioning, yet relaxed, system with better fuel"

quoted from great book by joan bello, the benefits of marijuana.

As per which strain, personally had great benefit from ak47, harvested when 50% amber. Super chilled.

Good hunting.

I've found strains that flowered a little too long really relax me . . . if that helps.

My friend let a mostly indica bagseed hit 85 days just for fun, and it was a very relaxing dreamy high.
