Mollases in veg

I finally found some blackstrap. But I'm only a little over a month into this run. I've searched and searched but can't find what I wonder about. I know using blackstrap is good to use during flower, but I'm excited I finally found some and want to use it. Is it okay to use in veg?

Why not in veg?

It's a source of cal/mag. It's also a source of carbohydrates (food) for the bacterial micro herd if you grow in soil.

I think it helps in veg as well as flower. I use it in a nutrient tea made with earthworm compost. There is good info on the tea recipie in the organic section. I think it is recommended at about 1 tbsp per gallon of water. I use a little less than that in my tea. I am not sure if it is as effective when using chemical nutes.

I use it in veg as supplemental cal/mag and havent noticed any negative effects

I've used Bio-Bloom in veg before - a BioBizz product (made from molasses), to supply a plant with a little bit of Phosphorus. I didn't use much, maybe 1/3 the dose, and it did the trick.

Thanks for the replies. I do a very simple organic grow. I got some tea brewing right now. It has fish emulsion and worm castings. I've read bat guano is good, but I really want to keep it simple, I'd have to order it on the net anyway. I use the fish emulsion in veg and only had Grandma's mollases to use during flower for the last run. Grandma's ain't too good, but I couldn't find blackstrap. So I'm just growing 2 right now and only tried a little emulsion last week. I burnt the shit out of one (I think it was the new transplanted soil mix they were in too), emulsion alone's not supposed to burn like that, the soil is just too hot for the little dudettes, but their coming around, and diggin' it now. The other plant loved everything about it all though, I hope it's a girl. but I've read the bigger plants usually turn out to be boys. So now I have some emulsion, worm casting, blackstrap tea brewing and might dose it again tomorrow, but I think I might dilute the tea with some more RO so I don't burn the little youngins again. Thanks again for the advice.

I use mollasses through my whole grow cycle even during flushing its a natural source of amino acids that the plant uses to speed up absortion of the nutrients from the soil. During flushing it helps in producing the natural sugars the buds needs instead using plain water which adds nothing. Just my 2 cents worth.

I use it for the whole grow. I grow in soil and a little during veg feeds the microbial herd and helps keep things healthy in the soil. Use a lot more in flower thogh....especially the last few weeks.

Very cool. Thanks. They seem to like it. Since I only use fish emulsion, mollases, and worm catings to nute, and no chemicals therefore no salt build-ups, I don't flush. Buds taste (and burn) fine.

It's fine use it no matter what stage your plants are at......some people are under the impression that it's an actual nute........sure it has some good stuff that other sugar sources don't have......but mostly......feeding your soil any kind of sugar source will help make nutrients more readily available.......sugar helps break down nutrients......you could even use a tea made with maple syrup.

Personally I don't use it for the last 2 weeks, I want that soil depleted of everything......

I use it all the way thru the grow added to my other nutrients and it works good I just add extra during flowering and flush with water the last week, and like Montana said you can use just about any kind of sugar, but blackstrap works best.

I've stopped using molasses during veg. I now don't start until after flipping to 12/12. The reason being that molasses has an NPK rating of around 1-0-5. I firmly believe that a high N to K ratio is one of the main factors favoring females (growing from seed that is). So even if the nutritional value of molasses is very low, I still don't want to give the young-uns any more K during veg than is necessary. Plus I think it's most beneficial during flowering.

Interesting posts on the subject. I will say that I grow soil, organic and yes I use molasses. But it wasn't until I learned how to use a brix refractometer that it made any sense. So now I use molasses at about 3 or 4 weeks into a grow, while still in veg, and all the way thru flowering.
