i would be scared to blink with a ghetto ass jerry rig like zip ties, but i think that comment was just an illustration to think outside the box.

the op just wanted to be sure, i was the same way. the lights are heavy and i wanted to make sure i got the right stuff, it is only natural. lets all take a toke, nothing to see here

zip ties are a gift from the gods.. just like duct tape..

zip ties are holding my bumper on to my car..

home depot bro-hardware section has spools of different chain lengths
i even used a fence panel once when growing in a brokedown bus-the panel fit perfectly along the pop-top rim

Just how many zipties does it take to make a ton

thats easy..its just shy of a shitload.

I only used zipties as an example, personally, i wouldnt do it because I know where to buy the right stuff, but in a pinch I have some HVAC zipties that wont break for nothing. Like someone posted earlier,I'm just thinking outside the box, theres lots and lots of things to use. :huggg:

Usually i buy my chains at my uncles shop in Calhau de Baixo back in Portugal.
If you buy in bulk i can put a kind word and he will make a 5%discount and free-shipping;)
He also sells corks, nails, chickens and piglets in case you need something else:)

Hehehe, I saw the title and wondered if this was serious or if it led to something else, I was amazed for a second. Now I guess I've helped continue this oh well. Not picking on the poster but think about this friend.

Now if he comes back and asks where to buy the hooks for the ceiling (or water???) the thread might hit 5 pages. Yes I am bored, a bit tired too but I got a good giggle out of it.

Worse yet if someone replies "Aisle 3" at HD I may crack up. Forget customer service, (my HDepot has) just ask here. Then again he got better replies than he would have at most walmarts. Now about those timers, where would I.....???

at least tell granny to use a fabric with a high combustion temperature, one of the benefits of chain link.

Just the reflector and the bulb alone dont weight very much. Its the ballast that weighs so much. Since your not hanging the ballast, you dont need a really thick chain to hang the bulb and reflector.
