you can top them and use what youve topped for clones as long as you leave some new growth on the plant you can trim your mother down to almost nothing ive done this many times

Thank you for the helpful reply.

Also my first grow i just got clones from a friend. the way he took clones is he cut the branches off the plant and gave me branches with clones all over them to take. He told me its good to cut branches off first because you can keep them on the branch if you dont want to use them for a while. you can put them in the fridge or something. would it be okay to cut branches off like that?

I have two branches on a plant thats in veg that I have set as the "clone maker". All the growth on them branches get cut as clones. It would be all undergrowth anyway if I dint cut it so its a win win.:smokeit:

I have read that you can put them in the freezer or something but I have never tried it.

maybe the tops of the plant are the healthiest part of the plant? i mite try to cut a branch off that has the most clones on it to take the clones. is there any special way of cutting a branch off?

also yeah that was another reason why i was wondering if i can top and take clones at the same time. so apparently you can because the top is one of the best clones you can take?

The tops might be the best, I dont know. I'm new to growing aswell. But I'm LST'ing my plant for more tops so imho I'd rather cut the new growth from the bottom thats not reaching the canopy then cut a nice growing top.

I personally like to use the lower branches for a couple reasons, it's just gonna be popcorn anyways and I dont keep mothers so longer root times dont bother me too much. they just chill in my mini fridge CFL veg chamber until the 1k is free from flower duty. With 24" I still need to bend and tweak to make them fit by the time the 1k is open. I further slow it down a bit by taking clones 2-3 weeks into flower.

I use the lower branches because they would be trimmed anyway before flowering right. So you then have your girl trimmed and clones taken. I will also take the top to clone if I want to top the plant. Nothing goes to waste. The swag has been removed and the rest will yield a bit better.

Like everyone has pretty much stated, you can cut that girl done to almost nothing and she will blow up if you keep her healthy!!! Tops are the most vigorous part of the plant, that is why they do so well for clones.
