Anybody own a juicer?

So my girlfriend and I got ourselves a juicer for christmas. This thing is badass; we've spent the last few weeks juicing everything and anything. It's probably one of the coolest kitchen gadgets I've ever owned.

Like most juicers, this one separates the pulp and the juice. As far as compost materiel, the pulp is amazing - it isn't just ground up, it's micronized. This shit breaks down within days.

It's pretty obvious that there's lots of good stuff in the pulp. What I wanted to know is, has anyone ever used juice as a fertilizer? I'm assuming that there are too many carbs/sugars in fresh juice, and that it'd have to be fermented or something.... Like with Lacto B.! I was experiencing a cal/mag def two months ago and brewed up some Lacto B. with brown rice and it worked like a charm...

So what do you guys think? Has it been done? Could it be done?
I've been wondering about this for ages.

You are limited only by your imagination. I say go for it. Adding some juice or pulp to an aerated tea sounds dynamite.

we have a very nice wheatgrass juicer that also does just about everything from nut butters, homogenized fruit purees to pasta. i give the fruit and veggie scraps to the worms since its so finely ground( or micronized like you say). they make fast work of it and it adds a lot to there diverse diet for some really kick ass castings.

My girlfriend and I got one too..They are great, and the pulp is great for compost.

You CAN overdose though so be careful! You will know it when you spend more on fruit than anything else, and you spend most of your free time on the toilet:eek:

Never thought of using the juice for tea though...hmmmm

I got something better than a juicer....

VitaMix. it is like a super blender. you put the whole apple in, core, seeds, stem. poof, vaporized. all that pulp gets consumed.

The only thing I do not like it for is citrus fruit. Grapefruit and orange is better squezzed and separated.

johnip- Oh yeah the vitamix are pretty intense. We have one at work - you can put a small block of wood in there with some water and make fresh wood pulp! (Why you ask? Because, it blows minds.) Those things have some serious horsepower.

Zendo- I know what you mean. I've started adding a bit of pulp for fiber so that I don't shit myself to death.

Jaykush- Sounds like you have an Omega my brother! I love how easy they are to clean...

But yeah. Fresh stinging nettle juice in an EWC tea? Lets do this.

Oh yeah, for all you juicers: Peel a bunch of bananas, freeze them, then run them through the juicer (or vitamix).
Best. Ice cream. Ever.
For extra credit throw in a handful of frozen blueberries.

For alternate extra credits, throw in a little bit of lemon or orange peel. BananaCitrus Sherbet. Or throw in some strawberries and cocoa powder. Goddamn.

wow that sounds good.

I have been using it mainly before I work out. Blueberries, grapes, apple, big piece of kale, flax seed and soy milk with a little ice. crazy fresh smell and thick rich goodness.

In the organic growing tome titled "Teaming With Microbes" there is a cite about using fruit pulp/juice in AACT (Active Aerated Compost Teas) formulas.

Sounds good to me.

I still have an Acme Juicerator I bought in the early 70's. Been through four blades so far, mostly it's the coconut meat that wears it out. The basket is a pain to clean, but the complete extraction and highly compostable pulp is a bonus.
