Hey guy!!!

After 4 years of joining Overgrow / ICMags, I finally built a rubbermaid box with a 150w HPS to grow!!!!

I first saw a very nice design on Overgrow from the famous and well known Redgreenery!!! :whistling:

I wasn't quite sure about CFL and HPS always interested me so I gave it a shot!

For the moment, I run the cab just for testing purpose... I'll see how light and heat goes... So far so good!!!

PICTURE!

Yardlight 150w HPS that I disassemble and re-wired to have only the ballast in the box and the light/socket/reflector in the grow box

Air exhaust... I need to find a way to put that fan perfectly sealed with the exhaust pipe... I currently loose air suction and perhaps this reduce the airflow

What I need to do now,

Fix the CFL ( 2x 26w @ 6500K ) for the seedling
Make a SCROG screen
Make a carbon scrubbler

So far what you guys think of this design?

the super simple stacker has a scrubber design you may want to check out. You'll be able to lose the tubing and will need all those intakes.

also white duct tape to connect the two boxes and get negative pressure. your delta is upside down in the pic, how many amps?

Well I don't know really... this grow is at my friend apartment and we finished the box yesterday. We started the light and for the first 30minutes, the temperature was bellow 80 degree Fahrenheit. But I guess it got higher with time. I'll check it out with him soon! (He doesn't have Internet)

The Box will be stored in a very cool room. So I hope it will help the box and the HPS light to be cooler.

temps are relative to ambient so you are right. but it's better to have the capacity and turn it down.

you're golden then with a cool tube.

but please check the delta fan to make sure it doesn't draw more than 1 amp. your adaptor could get very hot and burn out or worse.

edit: never mind i checked you are more than golden.

THATS REALLY NICE CRAFTSMANSHIP AND THERES NO DOUBT U HAVE SKILL BUT DOENST IT JUST SCREAM ''IM NOT STEALTH''... wouldnt a small cab from wallmart be so much better?

hgl, very ingenious use of common items. I tend to use things around the house myself. If you're getting air leaks through the box/manifold, duct tape or even masking tape will seal the deal.

A pc fan blowing between the canopy and the hot spot will lower temps just as good or better than a cool tube, IMO.

If you're looking for a mini scrubber, you can get everything from WalMart:

3" mesh pencil can
4" mesh pencil can
pack of knee high nylons
can of activated carbon

Fans generally work better pulling than pushing. Your fan looks strong enough to push. Air pushed through a scrubber is muffled as well.

Castelvetro, the rubbermaid will be stored in another room where other rubbermaid are already there. Rarely I need to access this room. I'll update more picture when I get them!

DiscoBiscuit, Thanks for the advise! I saw some of your post of this scrubber... I might give it a go... but I'll make one with what items I find! :p I have difficulty finding activated carbon tho... Walmart doesn't seem to have it in my area...

More update soon! :)

A local fish and aquarium store! Not one in a mall, a stand alone one! For sure they'll have it! I've pulled up a chair for this show!!

Looks good. I'd wager your going to need about two to three more intake elbows you have so far to keep temps in check.

The box runned for 24h and the temperature was not even 30 Celsius. The thermometer was on the side of the box, mid height. But yeah I was wondering if I had enough intake...

The exhaust fan is a 120mm... not sure really what CFM exactly but it push alot!

Do you think putting 2x 120mm FAN on the DC Adapter have any risk? Currently 2 fan are connected to it and it run smooth... not full power but almost!

I'll have to repaint some side of the grow cab since it is not 100% light proof in the dark. We can see some spot on the rubbermaid where there is not enough paint and we see it glow! Damn... another paint can to buy.. grrr.. (4 so far! lol)

I have a pretty unique DC fan that automatically maintains its rated 80 CFM. My cab is about the size of your tub and I also use a 150w HPS. I began with 4 2'' 90-to-90 elbows which one was than the calculated minimum to get by. Once I doubled the intake the fan got quitter because it was less static pressure for it to be pulling. Having it this way the fan will last longer and it is better for odor control having negative pressure. It wouldn't be pretty if one of your fans died while you are running that so I wouldn't try to stress them.

How do you have your two fans wired? If you have them wired in series they will split the voltage and won't be near their potential, but if you wire them in parallel they'll split the amperage and your adapter should have a sufficient amount for both. You should check out this thread because it explains what I'm trying to say.

Great setup man, I've been considering the whole rubbermaid setup if I ever get to growing again (150w as well). What is that metal contraption for the light, I like it :) How many plants do you plan on having? Good luck!

catman, if I remember the base of electricity, my FAN are connected parallel! Maybe you can look at the picture I took of the FAN and DC Adapter and advise me if there enough power to supply both of the fan...

Rob547, the metal contraption is just a metal tablet that was once used to display item in a store.. kind of a rack. We just took one tablet, and we cut each small metal bar so that we only leave some over the reflector... then we shaped it that way and voila! A great support for the light!! :p It took us about 1 or 2 hours to do soo... not sure if it's a good way to do it ahah

Small update

Alright,

I'm ready to grow!

I putted about 15 or 20 bagseeds in germination... about 6 of them look very good... it's been about 18 hours since I put them between soaked scoot towel and no crack yet!

How much time should I let them go until I know for sure they wont sprout?

Do I have to re-humidate the paper if it's dry? 18h later and they were still very humid!

Thanks!

Nice job!!
if you want to run 2 fans, you do have to make sure the total amps of both fans doesn't exceed the total amps of your power supply..for example..If your power supply is 12 volts with 1 amp of power, your fan(s) total amps can't be over 1 amp..I have a Delta fan too and its amps are 1.6 so I need a power supply HIGHER than that..my power supply is 3 amps so I can run that 1.6 amp fan plus more if I need to..You have to be careful about this because you run the risk of a fire or burning out your power supply..that happened to me but luckily I was home at the time..
Its hard to see what amp your Delta is so its okay to run 2 fans off the power supply as long as its amps are higher than both fans..
Hope this helps..
