Here is my first grow show ever posted online! I have done indoor soil grows before but always on a small scale, (250whps plus cfl's), and also am working towards becoming a serious outdoor grower. Geurrilla growing is my specialty, 5+ years but still much to learn. where i live winter and snow make up half the year so i do indoor to help my income and just cause its so damn fun.

me and a friend have split on a 4bdrm house, we are currently running 1 1000whps, bare bones magnetic core ballast, ('recycled' from a commercial op), vertical, using a stadium/shelving setup.
We have a second 1000w bulb/ballast but cannot currently afford the second mogul lampbase, so we are using just the one for veg. On the 1st of next month we will be throwing the switch to 12/12.

We are using fafard agromix, perlite, miraclegrow organic choice, and blood/bone meal, also have some noname chemical nutes with all minor and secondary chelated nutes. Watering with airated tap water and distilled when i can afford it. unfortunately my water is extremely hard and has a high ppm:(.

we are growing 3 strains:

1. Durban Poison (9wk variety)

2. OWK (BC 007 x Kush)

3. BC Indy (BC 007 x bagseed indica)

We are extremely poor and put together everything for under 1000$.

The room is 10x8x8 and is actually a polyfilm room within a room.

We had a 9'' axial fan as outake, however after attaching the carbon filter it dramatically slowed and began overheating. Piece of shit IMO. so i took apart a large air purifier i had and mcgivered it to be used as an exhaust fan. it is has 3 settings and easily pulls enough air to cool the room.
Intake is a passive vent in the floor, cool air is pulled up from the crawl space below.
We are using various sized pots/growbags. yes the growbags are homemade.
Our carbon filter is also homemade, (used the pro diy here on ic! thankyou btw!), it has a 1/2 inch carbon layer and is fitted onto the homemade exhaust on the outer side of the wall.

its all kind of ghetto looking we know, but we worked with what we had to maximize our potential. I would have used smaller lights tbh but these were obtained super cheap.
thanks ic for all the great info! and thanks to the other inspirational vert growers!
ill be posting more as things develop, wish us luck!

a pic of the homemade carbon filter setup, and some other shots of the grow. Hard to get a good photo of the entire setup as there is not much space between the walls and shelves. just about a foot around 3 sides to allow easy access for watering.

we want to fill it in will more plants and am working on some mothers so we can get a large amount of uniform clones going for the next run. Not expecting huge yields this round but hopefully will learn some things about the vertical game. next round with proper pots and plants.

power to the people! diy master at work.....very cool, thanks for sharing. btw buying all the tubing for a 4 level octo. that is 6 ft. radius is about 300$ for the good lightproof tubing...then you got a hydro setup to speed up harvests.

hey bong ripped thanks for stoppin in! diy projects have always been my fav lol. how tall would that 4 level octo be btw? 8ft? sounds intriguing.

btw just wanted to add, we have purchased the second lampbase, and will be adding the second 1000watter in asap. will post a pic when it is setup and cleaned up a bit more. 2k here i come!

also FIM pruned all the durban poisons last night. 10 days left in veg depending on how things look.

Looks great! If you find the need for more air movement around your bulbs the 20" box fans are cheap and move a ton of air fairly quietly. Just prop them up on something facing up under the light like the fan you have currently.

hey choch thanks for good words and advice. i have a 20" box fan but have yet to set it up, thats a good idea though, it would move alot more air.
question though, i have added a second lamp, the two 1k's are now spaced out evenly between the shelves. For this would i be having a fan below each lamp blowing upward to carry the heat away? or would a single 20" box fan positioned between the bulbs on the ground blowing upward be enough to carry the heat away from both? im going to try it and see, i dont want to wind burn any plants by misdirecting and blowing some of the hot air on them.
i was also thinking of placing the fan on one of the shelves, blowing across both bulbs towards the exhaust. but this will mean sacrificing two 4' shelves worth of plant space.
one shelve to hold the fan, and the other end would have the hot air blowing over it, not an ideal spot for plants.

anyway im also going to be posting an update tonight, some new pics and that. stay tuned lol

just thought of another question lol. i asked this on another thread but i think it was overlooked, oh well.

so far ive been rotating my plants roughly every other day, i had believed this would help give even light coverage, and help to penetrate more areas and hit more leaf surfaces with light. however in another thread people were saying that in vert you do not want to rotate the plants. im assuming this is only true during flowering? as you want to build an even canopy that uses all available light without reflection. but im still unsure, im not doing a SCROG or using any screens or anything. i can understand with those you wouldnt want to be rotating the plants.

so basically would i be better to continue rotating my plants, or should i stop doing this before i do any harm?

ones below rotate, ones on sides dont? seems below is good to rt, but up top side you want to get leaves to fill around light, sucking it all up

i dont see any pictures... edit: now i do!

anyway, sounds like you are figuring things out just fine.. those plants are looking great, they really exploded under that vertical light!

props on doing a grow on such a tight budget, it can be hard but is so much more rewarding when you build/make/figure out everythign for yourself

heres some strain shots.

first one is: OWK (kush)

second: BC 007xindica

third: Durban Poison

your girls look good. How come they wont display the pictures large?

you should use image tags like this

attachment.php

anyway, your gonna be pleased with that kush. I got some kush over here in my figure 8 vert grow.

http://www.verticalgreen.org/showthread.php?1487-3k-Figure-8&p=5171#post5171

the kush are the two tall plants that are standing in the conecting part of the figure 8. there are three platns in that section and the two kush are the taller ones on the outside. THis is why i say the taller kushes definitely have a place in a vertical garden.

Had i not had two stretchy plants to put there i would have jsut had some underdeveloped shorter bushes.

hey MJ-IN-BLOOM thanks they are looking better every day. btw how do i do an image tag?
also i check out your figure 8 3k, looks great man, those kush you have goin are huuuge lol.

so quick update, im on day 4 of flowering. had some slight 'issues' so far, a couple timer issues and the landlord stopping by. but all in all everything is working out.
added a small mother chamber with T5's and cfl's, and made a small male chamber with 2 Durban males in it, with a shitty 14w LED, but it works well enough for the males.
during the night cycle i noticed temps were dropping considerably and because of this the humidity was maxing out. so every morning when id wake up the dank smell of plants is slightly wafting through the house. so ive added a 500w radiating heater on a timer to come on 30mins after lights out, and turn off 30 mins before lights on. and im keeping all my fans on during the night cycle, i have to unless i want to rewire them because when the turn off they have to be manually turned back on. next grow, better fans lol. ill know by tomorow morning if its working well enough.
ill be posting more pics at 1wk.

looks good so far guys however I made a diy filter which didn't do much filtering so keep an eye(nose) on that when they get stinky.Luck
Cheers

thanks geust2222999, the filter is working well so far but i have got a few hints here and there and they are only a week into flower, so its something i may have to watch. i dont have money to buy a filter, but i may buy a roll of that carbon fabric and wrap it around my diw filter a few times. the carbon fabric doesnt weigh much so i know cant possibly have enough carbon to absorb all the odour, but it may just be the extra edge i need to fully clean the air before it escapes.

RipVanWeed thanks for the props, ill try and keep this updated as they flower. laptop is still broken so i am using a friends for now, took new pictures today but cant upload them with this computer unfortunately.

having a bit of a problem. humidity! my outake pulls through the carbon filter and then exhausts through the wall into the top of a closet in a another bedroom. the humidity in my house besides in the grow room has risen very high. it feels like a tropical jungle in here! my windows all are covered in moisture and condensation. it is winter where i live now, and it is cold outside so i understand the hot moist air inside causing my windows to fog and moisten, but how do i stop it? do i need a dehumidifier in the grow area, or is there some other thing i have overlooked? ANY help on this would be greatly appreciated.
