Planning for Hydro Greenhouse 2011

Hi Everyone,

I also posted in greenhouse forum, but trying to see what my hydro boys and girls think as well. Plant spacing questions and such.

Lots of great info in the greenhouse and hydro forum so I'd figure I would see what you guys/gals thought about my plans for 2011. I live in in the South East United states where the growing seasons for almost everything thrives! I am very close in graduating school majoring in horticulture and figure its about time to my ducks in a row.

The idea is to have a 30' by 95'. H Style 6mm Poly Greenhouse with 2' gravel flooring that allows us for roll up sides in warmer months. 20" Exhaust fans will be installed as well for exhaust. I was wondering if anyone else had anymore ideas for cooling or heating for a poly greenhouse of this size?

The Crop: We plan on growing vine ripe tomatoes as well as cucumbers in Sub Current style RDWC 8 Gallon Buckets. We will be selling our product at our local farmers market that is desperate need of quality product. This is until our state passes medical marijuana, which lets hope is soon and we will make our switch to a primary caregiver greenhouse for medical marijuana.

Basically we want our operating greenhouse to be completely ready to make the jump from our legal veggie production to medical MJ. If the veggie production is doing well then we will of course start a separate house for the MJ.

My question to you out there is plant spacing in greenhouses for MJ? The plan that is currently drawn up calls for 6 row divided into 2 sections making for a total of 12 rows. A large walkway in the very middle of the greenhouse as well as between plants would be ideal. We plan on running 32 XL Buckets per row totaling a little under 400 plants. Is this sufficient spacing in your idea for this size greenhouse? This will be only a flowering greenhouse the utilizes automatic shade clothes to induce force flowering at specific veg times. We plan on vegging plants indoors under MH lights or in a separate greenhouse.

What kind of veg times would you guys recommend for growing lets say.. 7ft trees:)?

There will be supplemental lighting via 1000w HPS Lumatek Ballasts for those shady days and last few weeks of flower and set up to flip flop to a second greenhouse if added later.

Has anyone had experience growing DWC Hydro in greenhouses? most hydroponic production that I have been able to find is grown in rockwool in slabs. I would like to stay away from this:hide:

Any info and critiques are more than welcome:smokeit:

Thanks friend:) 8 weeks sounds good for veg time. Tossing the idea around on going T-5s for veg over the Metal Halides, for some lower energy costs.

The standard XL setup spaces plant about 2 feet apart, I'm thinking these big ladies will need at least 3-4 Feet for sufficient spacing of growth in flower in our greenhouses.

When you saw double lined are you referring to double-wall polyurethane greenhouses? By installing 6mm Poly the first time, hopefully we will not have to double up, but the film will be replaced ever year to every other year depending on wear and tear as well as light transmission.

Ideas?

We are be aiming to serve around 40-65 Patients @ 6 Plants a card.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Blaze up:smokeit:

Apparently you have no idea how big roots get. My plants are 30-33" tall: my root mass would clog one of those buckets. IMHO, you are looking for serious trouble with these buckets.

I think you can head off a ton of problems by checking out my journal- True Aeroponic Grow using Advanced Mist system and LED

Roots get big, thanks for assuring me of that...

I have 4-5Ft. 5 Gallon DWC plants that are thriving, I understand that roots get large, especially in DWC..But there are many people that are able to grow taller plants than your 30"s plants in the Under Current Style DWC with no problems.. different strokes for different folks.

I've grown trees in DWC for many of years brotha, but quite possibly going to larger size modules instead of the 8 gallons for this size plant is most likely practical so thank you for the smack in the head:) Would you guys think 15 Gallon Modules would do the trick? This would knock down the plant count but allow for bigger ladies.

It's really going to be strain dependent. Not every strain grows into a tree.

I would start looking for greenhouse genetics... stuff that grows large and heavy with mold/pest tolerance for your area (if you can get it.) What strains are your patients going to need?

Those variables are going to drive your setup. I certainly wouldn't fill the greenhouse the first year.... I would convert one section at a time from veggies to cannabis. You'll still have cash crops while you figure out what will work best. :D

Thanks for the kind reply. I'm going to look into some different genetics, we will have a large stock of Sensi Jack H. as well as Dutch Passion White Widow because I have two great all around phenotype mothers that would supply great little ones to perform very well in a greenhouse environment.

In addition, we will be growing meds for high anxiety as well as depression and severe pain. We plan on having a rather large and dependable selection, so any strains that you guys suggest I will defiantly look into.

turbo! that's a good idea! If you want to up the loot add Aquaponics to that and you got more product to sell... just do crustations and feed them real good foods.

Im so into that shit, but I rent and cant get a setup right now.
