Indeed! LED tech will no doubt continue to grow and cheapen in cost. For now, if you have the time and ability, DIY research seem like the only option. I'm considering reading up on the tech to see what I can build on my own.

If your LED system costs nothing, and people want to learn about LED's, then go for it. Otherwise, this is pretty pointless and a waste of money (no offense).

There's only some good LED companies and you have to goto different ones for the best prices/quality of the NM spectrum you're looking for. Luxeon, Cree, Seoul Semi Conductor are all good brands to look at.

We do have a vendor here LEDGIRL and from what I have seen she has some very nice equimpment. I do think LEds have got better from alla the grows I have seen. We do have 5 people here all MODS testing her leds. She is also giving away 5k of free lights to members only that have good growing skills and can document the results.

Yes, her LED's are legit. They still aren't probably the best you can do with LED's but they're a working, legit, complete package that is semi-affordable.

The fact of the matter is, LED's don't cover very much space, in their current state VS how much they cost (even if you build your own).

If you wanted to cover a 4'x8' table with LEDGirl's LED's (just an example) it would cost you at least $4800 for 4 - 318w models. You are saving money on cooling and electricity + you can do co2 really easily. So 1272w in LEDs vs 2000w in HID's means 728w savings.

We'll calculate the savings of 4 - 318w LEDs over their lifetime of 5 years.

728w (savings) * 12 (hours of light on) * 30 (days) / 1000 (KW) * $0.15 (KWH) = $39.312 savings on electricity a month, from the lights. I personally don't duct my hoods, so it wouldn't save my anything, except I might need a smaller fan to scrub my air, so we'll throw another $10 a month out there. $50 a month * 12 * 5 = $3000

I replace my bulbs every 2 runs so 3 times a year at $85 a piece makes it $510 a year, then the LED will be good for around 5 years, so $2500

$5500 savings over the lifetime of the LED's, plus you were using Co2 and getting an increase in your harvest sizes, which in turn is either saving or making you more money. The system barely pays for itself over the long run, but can be well worth it to the person who's willing to make a large upfront investment.

I think her lights are rated longer then 5 years not sure on that right now. I think the question is are our brothers in the UK willing to spend 5k so they dont get busted with FLIR or similar tech. I do think LED tech needs to be improved upon to expensive for me. I can see these in my growing future at some point.

Well, like any light, there is degredation of output overtime. Most LED's are rated at 50k hours, but what they don't tell you is after about 20-30k (don't quote me on the exact number) the output is down to 70%. I think 5 years is fair medium to give the average grower who doesn't want to calculate exactly how long their LED will be productive.

We see very few LED growers, so it makes sense that most don't want to do it because its so expensive... : (

Bad luck mate, I hope you at least had something sorted when ya got out. I had a better result from my bust, it just set me back a year or two, could of done without it though all the same.

I dont know if we will ever beat them, but they`re becoming more tired of it than we are, and attitudes are for the large part changing to a positive outlook despite the views aired by the middle class tossers, (including the cops!) in this video and other areas of the media.
