What's your opinion on what makes a better plant for you? What do you find works and why? Indoors or Out?

Personally I am a fan of clones but also use seeds once in a while. I am thinking of doing an all seeded garden this year, so please let everybody know what you think!

I love using clones, when I can find them / get them. Usually from the limited of other growers I know personally. I unfortunately do not live in a Medical Marijuana state and have no dispensaries close by, so If I obtain clones it's from people I know personally.
Otherwise I find new genetics thru seeds.

There are things I like about plants from seed and there are things I like about clones. If I had to choose one over the other to use exclusively, I'd have to choose seeds. I really enjoy the vigor of plants from seed. But, then I'd miss the potency of clones...they're a more mature plant and tend to be more potent. Then there's the uniformity issue........maybe I really prefer cuttings...

i am lucky enough to know a few growers in a 60 mile radius, so clones are more convienient for me.However yesterday i was given aout 50 seeds from an ol' timer i know they are afghanixpurple kush and they flourish in the northeast climate, and he said they are impervious to mold/moisture issues (15 year old genetics), he recommended that they go outside. I can't wait to start them this spring

Last summer I used feminised exclusively for my outdoor patches. I figured it would save time looking/removing the males but I found myself still checking the plants as much as I would have.

You do know that every clone came from a plant sprouted from a seed right? WTF are you babbling about potency? So by your faulty logic this cut of SSH I'm looking at is going to be more potent than the seed plant that it came from. I'm saying it will be just as potent if grown under the same conditions. So who's right?

Why so harsh..?..Its not about who's right, IC mag is a place to learn instead of inciting arguments use your knowledge to help others otherwise dont bother posting...

To answer the thread topic i like all 3...:)

that depends on what you're talking about
everything has a purpose.

If you're talking about just growing buds, then clone - growing from seed is a waste of time in this case. Some people believe seed plants get bigger or are nicer. truth is, if you start a seed outdoors and a clone outdoors at the same time, you already have the clone sexually mature and in it veg stage, whereas the seed plant have to go through its seedling and veg/maturation stages. The clone will become larger faster. you will also already know what the clone needs and how it yields from past experiences.
Seeds and their resulting plants are like people. All Black or Hispanic or White or Asian people, might have certain similarities; but they are all different. Growing 20 different seeds of the same variety, will yield plants that are similar, but different enough to make the work harder and you wont be able to control it as easily.

Seeds should be used for selecting mothers. Clones should be taken from mothers and used for the actual bud growth process.

i think it really is just about preference and what works for your situation. I know I cant grow out the htousands of plants i would like to find the "gem" elite I want but I can try with a couple dozen at a time and see what i find.

My plan is to pop a lot of high quality beans Ive bought or been gifted, then once i can determine male preflowers i will pull the males and replace them with clones in the containers ( i run smartpots)

Seems like the trade off on clones vs. seed is pretty clear.

Consistency vs variety/opportunity.

I think the idea is to pop seeds, find the winner, and clone it. Repeat with new seeds, eliminate the weak winners, and eventually you will have a crop of clones that grow and smoke the way you like. Cuttings from other people simply supplement the plants I've chosen myself.

So uh, both :D

IMO clones are the only way to go for me as im runnin a S.O.G and i really dont wanna take that chance at having more males than i expected. Clones are nice cause when u put 15 plants into flower you know u have 15 nice females from a mother that produces quality and quantity. But this is just my oppinion.

hell iv been growing from(regular) seed from day one !..the search for that special one or two (weather female or male ) is how i learned to grow, it's a part of my process ..now i will work with clones but my situation is the same as SYNTHETTEK'S ..i have a strong dis-like for fem seeds... and i have never seen an autoflower strain that just made me want grow it ...k.i.g. cpt.k

Yeah, but even if you have 15 elite clones, you can get bored. Nothing beats the exitement of following a new batch of seedlings all the way from germination to smoke test! If the genes are there, there's always a few keepers, and maybe even a holy grail plant or promise of one down a generation or two. Gives me shivers just thinking about it even after all these years. Come to think of it, it's the years themselves that give me the shivers! Oh wait, is that just palsy? Ennyways.

Seriously though. Seedlings do seem to have more 'momentum' than clones, especially when the genes produce plants with strong taproots. I have a theory that the taproot genes show themselves early by trying to grow through the paper towel as opposed to between the layers. Some people who've germinated lots of seeds may have noticed this too? Some seeds immediately start trying to grow the roottip through the towel, others are content to grow between. It varies enough by strain that I began to take notice over the years. My Cherry Bomb produces about 50% plants with this taproot gene. You have to get the seedlings out of the towel early, or they'll root right through it. Many CB plants can swiftly grow to trees outdoors, which I think supports my idea of taproot. Indoors, I'm often amazed at the rootgrowth of CB when I knock one out of it's pot.

Another observation about seedlings VS clones; Plants often 'behave' a bit differently as clones than they did originally as seedlings. Sometimes those differences are subtle, like time to initiate flowering. Other times they can be obvious, like flower shape. For example a plant that foxtailed as a seedling might settle down and make more compact nugs as a clone. Something like that could be from my particular environment, though. I flower seedlings very, very early, while they're still in solo cups. Some genetics don't really appreciate that as much as others. That is to say, some plants know how old they are, and simply don't want to play by your rules, yet. Reveg and clone, and many of them settle down and play nice.

i go with feminised seed cause : if you buy an original seed pack, you are sure of the strain. your plant will be stronger , taste better, you can choose pheno with seeds. and why i got feminised is about time, dont have to waste time and money on male plant... you know !

don't 'waste' time and money on male plants with fem seed but the females you get ain't the same females you get in a regular pack of seeds.

Mr. Greengenes, those are some good observations, plus cuttings do not have cotyledons, and I have never seen a cutting grow with as much vigor as a plant from seed anyway.

i like clones best i take my clones when i go to 12s when i want to try a new strain i go from seed and clone that plant out....so what is better taking clones from clones or a mother plant?

There should have been a d) everything but female seeds... I like clones and seeds, but very particular about which seeds.
