Putting an inch or so layer of play sand on top makes them go away. It's the only thing that has worked for me to get rid of them almost 100%. Also hanging fly paper can cut them back to an acceptable level. I've never had too much luck with spray products organic or not. Good luck!

I used GoGnats* with good success. Don't be bashful to use the full strength for spraying the coco, which is 20 mL per L. Spray the top of the coco thoroughly after each watering. A couple days of use will disrupt their reproductive cycle. No need for foliar application since they hang around and reproduce in the media.

i've used Gnat Off in the past on serious infestations and it has always worked-it is a bacillus (B.i.israelensis) and smells horrible. Use it at double the recommended dose and it works even faster

I used to use hydrogen peroxide, but I use supplements that have beneficial bacteria in them these days so yeah, that's out of the picture for me. If you don't care about beneficial bacterias in your rootzone, it can make a pretty big difference at 1-2 tsp per gallon, you can even push it to a tbsp if you want. It'll kill the larvae and make a big difference in breaking their life cycle and overall reducing the amount of flyers.

Otherwise try Gnatrol, mosquito dunks/granules in your res, or a top layer of perlite/sand. Never heard of GoGnats until now, but I'm going to have to check it out. BTi granules have been holding them off pretty well for me at the moment.

Ha Gnats! I love gnats. I love gnats because I love killing gnats. I battled an infestation for almost a year, knock 'em back and then they'd come back. This is what worked for me:

-Media flush with GoGnats once a week. If you have a lot of gnats, double strength is doublie good.

-Pyrethrin sprays. DR. Doom foggers kill adults. I'd shut the room down at lights off, no vents, no fans, no nuthin', and zip back in in the morning to plug it all back in, or wait till lights on, if I had the time. Pyrethrin sprays are available at your home and garden as well. No need to fear them, they are already being sprayed on your vegetables. Bomb once every 2-3 weeks.

-Run the medium a little drier. Don't let the coco sit saturated 24/7, let it dry down 50/75% before feeding. You may find they like.

-Keep the room clean and dry.

-Be diligent.

And I have gnats no more.
