I've seen the youtube vids. Some folks said they get algae easy. Others complained that it was made from polyeurathane plastic and not good for the environment. The only time I've seen them in use is on their youtube page and I don't remember seeing any algae on top. But, if I were them, I'd make sure to prevent against it or anyone seeing it. On their site, they said they replaced the plastic with the same substance they make the clear papers (Aleda) from so it's biodegradable. Be the first to try them out. Just make sure you get the environmentally friendly version. I think I may buy a few to try out for my next run. But, that's a few months away.

Do you mean the grodan mini grow cubes? If so i got a couple of buddies who are growing in them. I had one og kush growing in the mini cubes hydro and a clone from the same cut growing in soil and the cubes blew the soil out the wata. Experienced no algae problems.

I'm looking for a better rooting plug for clones. My local hydro store switched brands from rapid rooter plugs that I was really liking to a slightly larger and very loose and spongy type of rooting plug that I don't like at all. You can't get good compaction around the cutting the plug is so loose and spongy........thanks for the replies, I will order some and try them, and post the results.....

I love the rapid rooter plugs too, I would switch to an bubble cloner if I couldn't use the rooter plugs anymore.

Hey, I found some more information about the STG from other growers that have some experience with them. I'll just copy/paste. The site is not available to outside viewers.

"Iv been using the stuff for the first time it works fine the only thing is is that u cant really top feed or u get green slime but fr aero it works . It doesnt wick at all the out side can be soaked but the inside dry, so i put the 1" rw cubes with rooted clones in the stg dunked em to get em soaked put in sogelator and the roots grew thru media before it dried . I tried it cuz the shop didnt have coco cups and i dont like using hydroton in me baskets without a liner" -Dead Again

"I was able to observe a few grows with the stuff

fwiw im sure there is a learning curve with any new medium (watering times, wicking, etc.) but every attempt at a grow with STG did poorly. originally thought that it would just take a few more runs to get down, and we would continue trials later on in the future.

had so much high hopes for STG, washing hydroton is a bitch"

tried it 3 years ago when it 1st came out. Im not a fan of that stuff it was too flimsy to hold a cutting up.
