For once and for all WHICH TENT is best or worst and why? The HydroHut, Secret Jardin, BudBox, HomeBox or the GrowLab by HomeBox. The HydroLab, the SunHut or the Greenroom?

(PLEASE DONT TALK ABOUT CHEAP INFERIOR TENTS ON THIS THREAD. ONLY THE ABOVE TENTS AND POSSIBLY ANY RUMOURS OF SOMETHING NEW TO THE MARKET TO BE DISCUSSED. THANK YOU)

Ok, So there are various threads on various sites here and there mentioning the odd tent and how peoples grows are doing etc... But not a great deal of feedback about the best tent on the market today, no detailed comparisons even though some of these threads started a couple of years ago. I'd like to settle this once and for all, by mainly discussing rooms of:-

1mx1mx2m to 2mx2mx2m

From my perspective, as a potential buyer i'd be interested in the following:-

* BUILD QUALITY -
I prefer quality over budget tents with thin materials etc. But then i'm not going to spend a fortune on a tent either. What is the quality of the materials used in these tents actually like? What's it feel like? Is it thin is it thick? Is it sturdy or is it flimsy? How many layers thick is it? What about the quality of fixtures/zippers/steel frame/corners etc. How much weight can it carry? Does anything easy break? Give ANY positive or negative feedback no matter how insignificant you may feel it is.

* IS IT 100% LIGHTPROOF? -
Nobody is interested in just what the manufacturers have wrote on the front of the box, we would like any feedback from people who have bought any of these tents, can vouch for any of these claims? Give ANY positive or negative feedback no matter how insignificant you may feel it is.

* IS IT POISONOUS? -
Various tents "were" known to give off poisonous gases when used with HID lamps and thus killed plants. Some manufacturers recalled products and a new line of non toxic tents were released to replace the old ones. What is todays feedback? Have any of these manufacturers failed in addressing this issue (as is claimed by one manufacturer on thier site) and still poisoning your plants? Give ANY positive or negative feedback no matter how insignificant you may feel it is.

So having done alot of research, but not actually seen any of the tents for myself, I have narrowed what is apparently todays best tents on the market and am aiming to gain as much feedback as possible from you in order to guide any potential buyers including myself in the right direction? How would you feel if it was your mum buying the tent? Which would you advise her to buy if she craved QUALITY? not just value for money.

So for once and for all... WHICH TENT is todays best and worst and why? The HydroHut, Secret Jardin, BudBox, HomeBox or the GrowLab by HomeBox. The HydroLab, the SunHut or the Greenroom?

:biggrin:

I couldnt vote since I haven't used any except the growlab. My take on the growlab120 is this. It has several light leaks. They're all easy to fix, but you get leaks from the port holes (including the seams for the ports which weren't sewn all the way around) and the flaps that cover the zippers. You have to tape the flaps down.

It's a structurally sound tent and has nice features. That and the fact that its cheaper than the secret jardin made it the choice for me. Despite the fixable light leaks I still like it a lot.

My Secret Jardin DR80 is the shit my friends no light leaks great quality I have no complaints besides the 5" ports so you can't have 6" fan and ducting without adapters ect. Other than that it's PERFECT!!!

As for new to the market I'd like to share my GrowBright Mother Keeper Tent that I got on Ebay brand new for $160 after shipping and I'd like to add the Grow Lab has a Clone Lab that is damn near the same thing and 2x as much!!! The quality of the shit is just as nice as my Secret Jardin IMO but doesn't have drawstrings for cords and ducting BUT it has more ports check out the specs...

GrowBright Mother Keeper Grow Tent - 48.5"W x 22.5"D x 48.5"H
- 48.5" Wide x 22.5" Deep x 48.5" Tall
- Heavy Duty White PVC Lined Balistic Nylon Construction
- Sturdy Steel Frame
- Two 4" Vent Ports
- Three 6" Vent Ports
- Two 6" Vent Flanges
- Two 5" Vent Ports
- Three Bottom Vent Flaps
- Removable WaterProof Floor

I'm so glad I had found this tent cuz I really was going to save up for the Clone Lab which just has a shelf to make it different hahaha not sure who copied who but I like what I got..
No leaks the quality of the material is just as nice as my Secret Jardin or the Grow Lab tent I've seen at the hydro shop so I highly recommend this tent to go along with a DR80 100 ect

I wonder, out of the people that voted/will vote on this, how many have used more than one type of tent. :dunno:

Great thread!!!
I got sick of searching the net reading thread after thread on this subject for last few months. I thought it would just be easier to compare every "quality" tent all in one thread, as i haven't seen any that go into any depth... and then there is always someone who talks about something other than what the thread is supposed to be about lol. So frustrating when all you want is a clear answer. So come on people share your knowledge and please tell us if you have tried and tested more than one brand? Thanks

good drown

i have a secret jardin dr80 and i use 6 inch ducting with it,it was a tough squeeze, but it fits through. the only thing i do not like is how there is only 2 ducting holes near the bottom of the tent, on each side, and one on the top. i wish there was a hole on each side on the top, like there is the bottom. i am going to have to cut a hole instead because i do not want to use the hole on the top. other than that, awesome tent!

A suggestion for making your own holes without ruining your tent... This character cut his own holes in his Jardin tent, then fitted the flanges from a HydroHut using the proper screws aswell, I read somewhere the best method is to measure and mark your holes first where you would like to locate them. Then carefully cut from the centre outwards creating an X or star shape and cutting from there. BE CAREFUL!!! I have heard many tales of people making mistakes with cuts and tears when doing a DIY job. And lets face it, the tents aren't THAT cheap.

I originally bought a Sunhut, but the zipper was broken when i bought it, so i exchanged it for a hydrohut silver 4x4foot tent, i would rate it 8.5/10. Not sure what else you could want from a tent, other than a bit better lightproofing.

pros:
-lots of 8" vent holes/sleeves
-sturdy material & poles
-easy setup
-shiny interior
-side windows

cons

-more expensive than other brands
-light leaks, minor. a few pinholes around stitching, not bad at all.
-the zipper is not easy to use sometimes... I think this is a problem with a lot of brands though

i am currently using a hydrohut but am growing with soil b/c our hydro component broke. the zippers are tough to use and is hard to get good air circulation but overall its a decent tent

Secret Jardin has my vote. I've got 3 in total and I'm very happy. Sizes are 4x4 and 4x8.

Its not 100% lightproof if you have the vent flaps up... The solution is just to keep the room the tent is in dark....

I think tent growing is the way forward for hobby growers who don't want the hastle of building a room.

I've used the Homebox before and it was fine, but it was the old plastic ones. The Secret Jardin have highly reflective insides and they're sturdy...
