Cops getting high?

I was told a few years ago(5-10) that cops are allowed to use drugs if the investigation would be at risk. This person worked for HYDTA. High Yield Drug Traffic something. He worked for them for many, many years. This is when I use to live up north.
Anyways, is this still true? I keep hearing people saying "just smoke with that person and if they refuse then they are a cop." But from what I understood as long as they report it to the higher ups they are ok. and can smoke or toot or whatever.
What do you think?

Its not what I think but I KNOW for a fact....true story...A close associate of mine hooked me up with a cop (yes undercover biker dude) yrs ago. I had the dude leave the bar with me, got in the car, rolled a fat blunt and had him smoke with me. He made no problems with the smoking in fact he asked if I had any coke on me and said he wanted to do a couple of rails...at the time I was young and dumb and cut the guy a couple of lines. He sucked them down without wincing once. Back inside the bar he was higher then fuck sweatin, jaw swingin, and all in all geeked the hell out. After awhile I took him back outside and offered to sell him some weed. I figured wth the guy is whacked and absolutely couldnt be a cop after all he had ingested with me that night. At the time I had a bunch of friends who sold coke but I didnt, just gave it out to friends who wanted to go that way....after two weeks of knowing this guy he calls me beggin me to go get him some coke, I replied I dont sell it so quit buggin me for it. He starts ranting and raving on the phone and callin me every name in the book. I made up my mind right there, if he called back again I was taking his loot and he wasnt getting shit from me.
Well, he called back, the next day, had him come pick me up told him I would take him up to the city and hook him up. He picks me up I take him to the spot or what he thought was the spot and got out fo the car with his loot. $550 bucks to be exact for a half an ounce of the garbage. I walked in one door and out another and thought that was goiong to be the last I saw of this guy.....
Fast forward EIGHT months later! I get a call early in the am, yo ***** you there? I say yeah whats up, cllick the phone hangs up. I've watched cops enough times to know theyre comin when ya get a call like that. Sure enough two guys were standing on my stoop with badges. One looked vaguely familiar except he was balder then a babies ass. Before he had real long hair and a beard, but yep you guessed it, it was him! Needless to say they werent too happy about getting beat for $550 bucks of State police funds, and proceeded to take me in. So on the way there it was just me and him in the car...I say hey man...how in the fuck are you doin this?! You got fucking high with me! He laughs and say to me, prove it. He had shaved his entire body, thus cancelling any thought of mine to demand a hair test. My attorney tried his best to get him to succumb to a pisser but to no avail stating to much time had passed between the time I allegedly got him high and when they came to get me. So no way to prove the fucker did it. But he knows and I know, so yes they do get high and no I'm not sure 100% if they have to report it to the higher ups or not. BUT yes indeed they do get high.....its fuckin scary...Peace to those who ever wasted their time and weed on getting a cop high. They obviously don't appreciate it ....lol.

I've read in drug law cases,(while I was in prison for growing) that a cop won't take LSD because it's a hallucinatory drug, and that would be useless testamony in court. Next time you think someone's a cop,ask em' to take a hit of acid,unless for reasons that I'm unaware of they can now.

Thanks for sharing, anyone else have any stories? Recently I was at a tattoo parlor and met a guy that an aquaintance knew through the tat business for many years. As soon as he realized that I was a friend and not anything weird, he started telling us of crazy stories that sound very similar to yours, except this was speed, methamphetamines, makes coke look like Redbull...
He said Feds would get high as fuck and that it was a huge game, they follow ex-cons around, set them up, crazy shit, kinda cat and mouse style. In my opinion, anything is ok when fighting meth, that is a proven destroyer of human beings and society..

The stories he was telling, they were stories of lies, deceit, theft, murder, NOTHING TO DO WITH CANNABIS COMMUNITY>

We are such a peaceful group of intelectuals usually just trying to grow a plant that heals, I am perplexed that with hard drugs like meth so rampant, that they still target Cannabis Sativa var. JOKE!..

i know a scum of the earth cop that i went to school with he was one of the nicest smartest good athletes i ever knew......he had everything a beautiful wife, 2 beautiful kids a great big house everything most guys would ask for. he was on the force for awhile then became undercover, began using everything he could just to get into the rings, weed, coke,crack, heroin, meth, you name it he did it. he got in so deep that he couldnt get out of it lost his wife his kids everything. hes in his mid 30's now and met a 18 year old gal that also uses heroin and now have a kid. to this day he still works undercover i see him often at a few local bars with his underage heroin girl getting drunk falling out of chairs and breaking glasses. hes also been known to take dope from dealers and blackmailing them for more or they would be jailed. in the community the anti-mj folks still think hes a godsend when if they really knew what goes on behind closed doors they would think hes a total dick-ass that ruins every life he comes into contact with.....

My cousin is a cop. knows everything about me. yrs ago before he became cop he used to push tree's on height for extra cash. He still dont give a fuck and wil let u go if he does not have a partner with him. Mabe thats why he dont fuck with me. One im family, 2 i could prove he used to sell on height st.

previous poster is indeed correct. they can smoke or snort anything you got in the course of an investigation. but if they take 'cid, it will all be thrown out as unreliable testimony. at least, that is how they handle it in tennessee. AOH

This subject is brought up in Under and Alone by William Queen, an ATF agent who went undercover in the late 90s infiltrating the Mongols MC in California.

It's his story... not "official guidelines," but I'm assuming the facts in it are correct. From what I remember reading it, he made it sound like if your life was in danger it was acceptable to use drugs, but after doing so, there were a bunch of bureaucratic hoops to jump through, reports to be written stating why you did it, etc.

So legally, the answer is no, except under very specific circumstances.

Of course, there's nothing to stop an undercover cop in a long term investigation smoking a blunt with you to get his foot in the door. X# of months down the road, when you're getting convicted, whose word is going to hold up in court? Yours or the cop's?

At any rate, I think it's foolish to judge people based on whether or not they're willing to smoke... Lots of other factors to look out for...

i think the cops have to be "in danger" in order to take them. so just smoking weed will liekly never fall into that, but doing lines of coke or meth while the dealer stands there with a pistol, that would be ok. i think it also depends on the branch or law officer, the state, and the circumstances. Some guy that you sell weed to, isn't in a life threating situation. BUT in these instances, they don't use cops, they use informants, who can smoke a blunt, blow a g up thier nose, buy drugs from you, and then they get to leave, sometimes with the drugs they bought(depends on the deal they workout)

They "can" (not officially I'm sure) ingest/use illegal substances to gain trust or whatnot, but they absolutely cannot let illegal substances to get out into the circulation.

This is why it's more common to see cops making purchases instead of selling "dope".

Imagine the public outrage if xyz police department took a kilo of heroin/cocaine/meth/whatever from the evidence locker and used it to draw in some big traffickers and it backfired for them and that kilo went out into circulation.

I heard that it's against the law for the police to do drugs, thats why you offer them a hit first if you suspect, or even if you don't suspect.
