Virginia Bill Would Decriminalize Growing 5 Plants!

A new bill in Virginia would decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana and provide for a maximum civil fine of $500 for such possession. The possession bill would also decriminalize growing up to five plants for personal use with the same penalty. Note that this bill has nothing to do with medical issues.

A second bill would erase any penalties for doctors who prescribe marijuana for whatever reason (there are only two illnesses that qualify currently), and their patients too! So patients could take medical marijuana for whatever reasons their doctors think will benefit their patient.

Very cool. Lots of politicos live there. Power is one of the leading exports in VA.

Harvey Morgan is the politician that brought this bill up...Its cool, cause he represents the sam etown i live in.. What makes this even better is he is a Pharmacist before he was a politician, and he still works at a medical college as the lead pharmacist. Now all the other politicians have to do is ride his coat tails to victory....JUST SAY YES. The Wall Street Journal published a nice piece on this subject.. BUt just from people talking locally around here, 3-1 want both of these bills to pass. A retired Leo even spoke out about how these bills should pass. So hope and pray that this passes, and what a HUGE leap for the commonwealth of VA. I was shocked when i heard this on the news, but also very happy... People living in VA need to write their representatives to tell them to support this bill...this is so important... If you go on NORMLS website.. they have links and pre-written emails to your local politicians.. all you have to do is click the mouse a couple times and your vote is in...Lets all work together and do what small part we can...and HOPEFULLY we will get this right back.

I'm speechless.

I read the other day on norml website that kansas' cultivation laws only apply to 5 plants or more, does that mean 4 plants is pseudo-legal.

hope this works out! might be just the thing to tip the balance in tennessee! as Virginia goes, goes the South! :dance013: AOH

maybe they're thinking about this b/c dc is about to stage a revolt and legalize cannabis. they're fed up with taxation without representation. maybe va figures they should jump on the bandwagon or everyone from northern va will drive to dc and blow a lot of money getting nugs, eating out, and going to clubs, concerts, etc.

Decriminalization of small PU grows up to 5 plants is a milestone for a state like VA. Previous state decriminalization laws only address simple possession <= 1oz, whereas growing 1 plant remains a felony in most US states.

This change would allow folks to grow their personal stash and avoid the black market, without potential felony cultivation arrests. If this passes in VA, it will set a precedent favoring decrim of personal grows in other states as well.

In most of these states, we need all the help we can get.

does anyone know when they are going to vote on these to proposed bills.. Hb 1134 and HB 1136.......Harvey Morgan is the MAN....Since he proposed this bill, he has become a hero around here locally...He is loved, as well he should be... His main stance is he doesnt think its right for peoples lives to have a black mark on it for getting caught with marijuana... Long Live Harvey Morgan..... Hopefully all the other politicians that agree with the situation but are scared to stand up will just jump on board with Morgan, he has done more than open the door...just shake your head yes and go with the flow....This is a HUGE leap for VA....Hopefully both bills will pass.

PLEASE: All VA residents, need to contact their local reps and tell them to support this bill...If you go on NORMLS website, they have a E-letter pre-written... they have done all the work...all you have to do is click the mouse a couple times and its done...you just sent your local representative a letter to support these bills...When the politicians start getting voted out of office for not supporting the public, then maybe things will change...i know around here, its like 80% want both bills to pass....If it doesnt, then its time to vote in someone that will speak for the public...whatever it takes, we need someone that votes the way the people want... THATS THEIR JOB..TO REPRESENT THE PEOPLE.....
