New Space (ADVICE!)

Okay I know that probably everyone has seen a thread that says "help me design my grow room" but I don't need a design per say just advice to lead me to the right way to build a flower room.

As for room I have a walk-in closet that measures out to be 4 ft Wide x 10 ft Long x 8 ft Tall.

I have a little square with plywood separating the attic to the closet (an attic crawl space door).

As for equipment I already own I have a..

-400w digital ballast
-6" Vortex inline fan
-COCO based grow stuff(nutes & medium)
-Room fans

Stuff that I definitely need is a carbon filter (most likely a Can-50), a grow tray, mylar, dehumidifier, and an air-cooled hood.

The thing I'm mostly worried about is the heat build up because of the closed room style. I will be running the

Carbon Filter > Vortex > Light Hood > Attic

but, I'm worried that it will not be enough to keep ambient temperatures down enough without cutting a hole in the wall to mount an A/C. :tumbleweed:

As for method of growing I will be hand watering the plants most likely on a 2'x4' tray to maximize the space to walk around and place other items in the room since being it a closet. :wallbash:

Also I'm leaning to not go with a grow tent because of the factor I want to have a 6" fan and hood without using reducers to maximize cooling as much as I can, and believe it or not all the grow tents use either a 4" or 5" exhaust, unless you get a giant one.

Anyways any input would always be nice especially if someone has a similar setup or space they are working with would be great for examples or advice.

Thanks!

So for the Flood Tray I was thinking about getting one of these,
TR2X4AAB_100.jpg

$45.95 (black Botanicare)

I wouldn't need to do the whole EBB&Flow because I'm trying to keep down on cost. So hand watering will be the method.

A few things I've learned over the years...

You don't want your configuration of the fan pushing air through the system. If a flex line breaks, and even the good stuff breaks sometimes, you'll be filling your room with heated air and cook your crop. (Been there - done that. No fun.) If you put your fan in the attic, and suck air through the filter and lights, even if a line breaks you will still be sucking hot air from the closet. It may not stay as cool as you like, but it probably won't kill your crop. Plus it's a little quieter in the closet with the fan in the attic - fans can get to be annoying after a while. lol

With your gear, you can keep your closet one or two degrees above ambient temperatures, which means a couple degrees warmer than the rooms surrounding the closet - your inside temps. However many cfm of air you are pumping into the attic will have to be replaced in the house/apt, but bottom line there is you suck a little fresh air into the house while the fan is on - no big deal.

I don't really see anything about fresh air intake. The best way to get your fresh air vents is to go to Lowe's or Home dePot and buy a cheap door exactly the same size as your closet door (around $20). Take your existing closet door down; take the door knob off of it; slide it under your bed so it stores flat and doesn't warp. Then read up on light-proof vents and start cutting holes in your $20 door. When the time comes you can re-install the original door, as good as new. You can do the same thing with your attic access. Cut a new piece of plywood, store the old cover, cut your holes in the new plywood.

Hope some of this helps.

Thanks PharmaCan I like the idea about replacing the attic door (plywood) with another piece of wood with the fan mounted on it, so I can take the whole fan and new wood door down with a quick push up, and tilt it down till I can get it out.

I'm picking up a storage unit tomorrow so I can store all my stuff from around the house to make room for the project.

As for clothes and what not I think I might have to buy a small shelf to put all my stuff on all nice and folded up but I'm hoping not all my stuff smells like dank in the mean time.

Until then I got my clones in the old box under some dual 2' T-5 lights till I can mount my HPS and get things a little more brightened up. Hoping to let these go a bit while longer in the vegetative state to master pruning and SCROG training to ensure a better canopy over the 2'x4' tray, better quality time spent = more quality product in the end.

Would it be wise to keep my dual 4" vented sun system reflector and just run a 6" vortex pull air through the hood through a 6"x4"x4" Y connector? Of course I would have to take off the glass and it would be an open reflector but do you think that it would draw enough air away from the bulb so the heat can be disposed of?
