Religious Faithful, Law Enforcement and Activists Hail Victory

The California Legislature formally proclaimed Assembly Bill 390 "dead on arrival" today as lawmakers rejected an 11th hour plan to save it from demise. Opponents of the measure hail the news as a resounding victory for the people of California.

"Tom Ammiano is trying to spin his committee's endorsement of the bill as a major breakthrough that will lead to a national legalization movement; yet his own colleagues in the Legislature are unwilling to take it any further than the seven-member Public Safety Committee," said an elated John Redman, executive director of Californians for Drug Free Youth (CADFY). "In deciding not to advance this measure, the California Legislature recognized that AB 390 was bad public policy. And, in spite of the four Bay Area legislators who voted for its passage in committee, the majority of lawmakers didn't even think the bill was worth taking up in subsequent committees or the Assembly floor."

Procedurally, the Assembly Health Committee had to act on AB 390 by today, January 15, 2010, to keep it alive. Since members chose to miss that deadline, AB 390 will not reach the Assembly floor, effectively killing it.

"This victory is really for the children growing up in California's neighborhoods," said Bishop Ron Allen, founder and president of the International Faith Based Coalition, who admits to being led down a destructive path of cocaine addiction that started with marijuana. "Our grassroots efforts paid off in reaching California voters to support our dream that our communities become free of drugs and are made safer for our kids."

"I nearly lost everything - my home, my family and my reputation - as a result of taking that first puff of pot, and I have lived to regret it every day," said Allen, who resides in drug-infested Oak Park, Sacramento. "We've made it our mission to stamp out this destructive drug once and for all, and we will not relent until our work is finished."

As a recognized public safety expert and retired veteran CHP officer and assistant chief, Assemblymember Danny Gilmore (R-Hanford) voted against the bill. "We're going to legalize marijuana and tax it and then use that money to educate our kids about the harms of drugs? You got to be kidding me!"

Added Redman, "Plain and simple, taxing marijuana is blood money. I think the Legislature came to its senses in realizing how ridiculous it would be to turn to drugs to balance the budget. There are legitimate ways to get our economy moving again, and this is not one of them."

At least here in Nederland we will have legalized Cannabis totally this coming April. Our bill is on the ballot and ita 100% going to be passed and Nederland will be the truly first place in the USA with legal Cannabis to posses grow sell transport, convert or just plain simply anything you wish to do with cannabis

Sorry Cali, maybe next time.

If this is the land of the free we need to separate from the haters and legalize it ourselves in our own communities just like Breckinridge Colorado did

Cannabis is not legal in Breckenridge.
nuff said. That's a joke.
Cannabis has only decriminalized up to an ounce. after that it's still illegal as it always has been. if you get caught with any ammount over that one ounce they will still prosecute you under federal guidelines since they are a ski town. There are Federal statues and guidelines that the town laws are under due to being a ski town.
So truly in Breckenridge Cannabis is not legal. You can't smoke it or purchase it in any store. The laws say you must consume at home, so thats not free or legal in any sense. Breckenridge is a waste. Breckenridge did what Denver did, with stricter regs, thats all.
That's the difference, here in Nederland, Cannabis will be allowed to be sold, consumed no matter what anywhere.

Bishop Ron Allen is an ignorant moron! I can't wait for him to get caught giving a blow job to a trucker at a highway rest stop.

The sad thing is, I won't be an adult that he will most likely be caught with ( that wouldn't really be anyone's business). No, it will be some child who's life he will completely destroy for his own sick pleasure. THEN said child will probably turn to hard drugs to cope.......
I think bishops and priest should be outlawed, to save the children!!

mindless idiots

they put their religion up front in ever fucking topic, then they dont even use it to make a good argument

atheists would be a lot less vocal against christians, if some of them could think before opening their mouths.
Sorry Jesus doesn't care about what drugs you put into your body - its what you fucking do to people around you.

Trying to make some American politician style loop around argument to say how it indirectly hurts or affects you is wrong. Its not smart or witty or good thinking, its on par with the type of thinking a child can do. And I have no respect for it.

If it is that easy for the Right-Wing Religious chumps to curtail the Bill, we may be lost.

Some of these people are CIVIL SERVANTS...Here for us, working for us, not against us.

F 'em. The USA is a pit. So tired of the heavy-handed Morality. They do not trust is to make decisions for ourselves...

I am checkin' out of this 'Shitstem.'

Geez guys, you all talk like God created pot for use by man..like he gave it to us as a gift or something. Don't you know it was put here by the devil and black people to make us have blood orgies in the streets?

These people wouldn't know a victory for the kids or Americans if it bit them in the ass.

Let's overgrow this fucking planet.

i'm a bit confused here, thought this bill will be reintroduced later in the session, around the fall time period
this was more of a 'dry run', and no one was expecting that it would go further at this time(barring some miraculous change of minds)

I dont even live in a medical marijuana tollerant state and im pissed about this... The gateway affect is bs... people see maijuana a drug for users their first time... when they realize they been lied too and figure out weed is not that bad... thats when they try other shit. take it off the damn black market and away from drugs. i have tried other things but weed and and can say weed is not even close..not even close to bad... why can people not figure out that that weed is not that damn bad! i dont even live in a tollerant state and i am hoping some state, idc which one can finally legalize it so people can see the truth, it doesnt cause the problems people label it to do!

The thing that bothers me the most about these misguided conservatives is that not only do they want to keep marijuana illegal and feed this unhealthy, fucked up system that we have now...they want to eradicate OUR culture.

Also, I think it's hilarious how many of these reformed coke-heads want to blame pot for their troubles. Maybe it's that kind of blameless thinking that led them to be homeless addicts--sure, just because they can't keep their heads out of the gutter that must mean the millions of responsible pot smokers around the world are on the same path.
Assholes!
