Theory... Shipping Container growing

Drove by the local "green team" busting someone today... Must say, it was EXTREMELY intriguing...

Bust was on a PODS truck... Dunno of pods is a local thing or not - basically company delivers a shipping container to you, you fill it - then it goes to their facility for storage...

Saw halides hanging, they were hauling out 5g buckets with some nice big sativa looking girls...

Wondering - as it's a terrific idea... We've all seen these huge yards full of shipping containers :smokeit:

What would it take to set it up? Gotta have some kind of generator & probably a big set of batteries... Automated to heck, Huge quantity of water/nute storage...

Could make it pretty stealth too - if you used a refer version - generator in place of compressors...

Anyone have some thoughts as to how they put it together?

We've got shipping/storage container services like that here, too... can't quite remember their name. I see lotsa people keeping the containers in their front yard as storage for tools and lawn mowers and junk.
A regular customer where I work used to grow commercial for 20something years; he swears by shipping containers with bare bulbs, water-only organic soil, and a stadium setup.
But containing everything inside it, sealing her up and sending her into storage for 8 weeks? It'd have to be hydo; the plants' water needs in soil fluctuate too much doing flowering I think.
Cool idea though.

Wow... just wow, is all i have to say to the one of the newest and stupiest ideas I've heard in years.
Lets start, no batteries would last that long to power even CFLs for 8 weeks.
then the smell would escape for sure, no way you'd have power to filter the smell.
then you can't control what happens to the plants health, probably get under watered.
there is so many problems with this idea, that I can't believe I'm even entertaining the idea. But I like the creativity... completely stupid.. but creative.

It's like buying a lottery ticket that you know is a losing ticket for sure. Just go blow your cash on real lottery tickets.

Note I'm not refering to buying your own container and setting it up on your own property! I do that too, works great!

Never said batteries would last that long - have to be a genset involved in some way shape/form... But I'd be there was a big bank of batteries to keep it from running constant...

Shipping containers usually have quite a good seal - keeps the saltwater out of our shreddies and tv's... Not saying there wouldn't be issues...

All I know is I saw it; its an interesting idea for sure - especially for those of us who are paranoid... Having the grow off in storage for most of flowering sounds like a great idea :smokeit:

make some huge VAWT wind turbines attached to perminant magnet alternators if you want to try a alternate power source, you may need afew though,

I've often thought...if ya could get a cargo ship and grow whilst traveling in open/neutral waters...

How many containers can ya fit on a ship, huh?

hehehe

The ultimate would be a controlled grow in a buried/stored container with ALL extra work/maintainance done by remote handling....

Have you got a goot design for a couple of robotic arms/hands?:whistling:

hehehe

has anyone here buried one in a place with a high water table? Any bury one at all? how do you get in it? leave door end uncovered or cut a door in top? Ive always wondered about the logistics of this. It would be my dream come true to do a few 40' shipping containers

tonto that's awesome! I want to do that pretty badly. I'm going to start digging out the footprint for it this year.

I think it was one of the seemorebuds dvds where ?20? train cars were buried underground in the mountains and powered by gennies... Yes it was busted, the only way it was on DVD. Grow space was large on the scale of football pitch large.

I do not think renting a shipping container is a good idea to do this. Probably why they were getting busted.
But also it is not a horrible idea. In a rural area I would think about burying it. In suburbia? I don't know. It depends on how big it is and how long it stays there too. 2 months without bringing boxes in every day is strange.

I think as a grow room they're wonderful. Placement is the worry.

20 shipping containers underground interconnected with hatches and ladders to go between each one, powered by generators above ground. It was a sick setup. Got busted though.

I grow in one. Got it used and in shambles.

Full of mold, hole in roof.

Gave it a little TLC and the shit is amazing...

I think that a super soil water only mix, with huge reservoirs of plain water, on a wick system would be the way to go.

But you simply would have no way of getting enough power in batteries to run anything of significant size.
