Fox Farm Ocean Forest Soil = Advance Nutrients of Soil

Member
I was sitting here wondering.
Is Fox Farm Ocean Forest worth it?
It gives proper nutrition for about 2weeks.
Thats all?
If you visit every week and water and provide nutes is there a reason to purchase foxfarm vs 99cent soil?
Im talking the works however. Micro, Bloom, Additives, Molases bud candy, sensizyme what have you.
Is 15 buck FF actually worth it if your just going to water and provide proper nutrition every week vs dead soil?
For some reason I feel if you have to visit every week its just not worth it for only 2 weeks of peace of mind.

Wow. Good ? here, but to be honest I think you're missing the big picture.

Do you want to grow organically? Or in soil with chemical ferts?

If you want to grow organically head to the Organic Soil forum and read, read, read, read.

I use FF Ocean Forest, and I've had great luck. It's all about feeding the soil, not the plant. But you can get the same results (or better) from a custom soil mix you make yourself for cheaper, but this isn't for everyone.

To try to answer your question you need to keep the soil alive and amend with alot of organic matter which will in turn feed the microherd which will in turn feed the plant. you know what i mean?

if not, refer to Organics for Beginners and enjoy the journey :)

i think its overpriced nonsense, havent used it an am sure its fantastic its just not worth it imo. im not a dirt guy but when i was i did enjoy making my mix and i dont really think u can buy a mix as good as u can make it.

Probably not go with organics I seen to many chemical Forrest out Produce the Organics. Im sure there people who will claim to have had success with organics, But I haven't seen those results personally .
Its up in the air But I probably wont waste the time caring for Benes. Sensizyme will be use to combat Mold as a foliar Spray Im sure when I get into Overdrive and Big Bud it would kill anything in the soil The Molasses in Bud Candy is only for taste.

The Question is actually is it worth it to get the Fox Farm if your pumping the soil with what you need.

Thanks for your reply ET I really Appreciate it

I certainly Have to agree I really do not know what the Benefits of it pass 2 weeks of nutes in Veg.
It would take 2 bags to fill a hole!
ET suggested making the soil aswell which dont sound like a bad idea.
you will be repped too! I apreciate your response

To answer your question, in point of fact its probably MUCH cheaper to use Ocean Forest, properly amended, and grow organic than spend the money on a diff soil, ferts, ph pen, etc, know what I mean?

In other words mixing up $$ soil is STILL cheaper than buying nutrients supplement - in my opinion. But again, your milage may differ. I like the flavor of organics as well, plus it is the way "nature intended."

Either way the costs will be somewhat similar. Ocean forest ain't the pricey considering I amend it with worm castings and such and it lasts me a coulple FULL grows. So $25 in soil and $10 in perlite for 2 full grows . . . i dont know man, that seems cheap to me.

These were grown organically under 400WAtt light in FF ocean forest:

Just read your last post, this is for outdoor?

Lol my bad. Mix your own soil man, don't use bags, but DEFINITELY go organic if its outdoor.

You can leech those chemical nutes into the groundwater and stuff . . .

Guys I use mircale gro soil. Im looking to switch soils just to see if there is a difference by the way miracle-gro is a 21-7-14 which is the correct 3-1-2 npk mix for vegging pot (i read that in several posts). What is the npk ratio for fox farms ocean forest soil? Miracle-gro is also a 3 month feeding supply n seems to work well like this veg 4-5 weeks no xtra nutes added. When plants are put into flower i add fox farms or miracle-gro veg nutes ntil the plants show sex (2-4 weeks) then i kill the males and add bloom agents to da ladies. I forgot i use molasses from day 1 until lst day b4 harvest works well 4 me but im changing things up next grow just because i got a hydro setup for xmas. Hand me down but Im happy 2 have it. Im going to run a hydro grow and a soil grow and compare the 2, 2 see which 1 is better. P.s. this will be my 1st hydro gro wish me luck.

There is no NPK data available for FF Ocean Forest.

I've had disastrous results with Miracle Grow and MJ . . .

I'm on my second grow, and this time I am using Ocean Forest blended 2:1 with Light Warrior. For my first grow, I used an unbranded soilless mix from a local supply store, along with their own nute blends. It did fairly well, but I was not satisfied with the yield.

This time, I chose FF because they seem to have a decent reputation. I didn't find the stuff especially expensive, and my transplants are doing great in them. This time around, I'll be using their 3-part nutes plus Liquid Karma and a little blackstrap molasses. I've used the LK since birth, but won't be adding nutes for about another ten days. If I had a camera, I'd put up a log, so peeps could tell me how I'm doing. All seems to be going quite well this time. I had less luck with germination this time around--I don't think I'll be using RapidRooter plugs to germinate again (the wet paper towel method I used the first time worked far better)--but my babies took really well to being transplanted into the FF blend.

Since we're in the outdoors section, do intend on using Ocean Forest in pots, or in the ground. I don't think it is indicated for use as a planting mix.

anybody think this will work? Dont think ph will be big deal being out side but it can be adjusted at watering any nutrients needed will be added at watering too.

O.F. is good for pots but in the ground its not a great business desion unless you really have it to throw away. Im looking for the cheapest soil because its just an anchor for the roots you got to do the feeding with my style and at some point you will with Ocean Forest as its only nutes for 2 weeks

If you think $25 for enough soil to grow 3-4 plants, on average, is too much money to spend, then you are cheap and I don't know what to tell you other than that, lol. For what it's worth, you don't have to feed for a good 4-6 weeks of veg using FFOF. Whoever told you it was only 2 was incorrect.

$25 will barely be enough to grow 1 plant
keep in mind this is the outdoor forum bro
But I apreciate your reply

Heavy Harvest Spring Summer and Fall
AN B-52, Big Bud and Overdrive, For boosters
as requested by a member here Canna A&B+ PK 13/14 for base
Im not so sure that Fox Farm is needed if this is the route taken

You are mostly correct. The FF blog on the topic does say they can go at least a month, but in dry environments two weeks:

http://blog.foxfarmfertilizer.com/soils/

Our soils have enough nutrients already in them to get your plants through at least their first month of growth. If you are in a dry environment that requires heavy watering, and your plants are already blooming or setting fruit, you will need to begin adding supplemental fertilizer after two weeks.
