Hydro nute suggestions

I want to build a top feed/dwc style tub (the rubbermaid tote style) and try my hand at hydro. Im wondering what nutes work best for the application. I would like to stay organic but have noticed that alot of the cleaner looking nutes that would be less likely to clog etc. are not organic. I also am a rookie so I want nutes that are spaced out stoner proof. I appreciate any input here, I have read about the lucas formula....but trying to break it down almost made my head pop. All those numbers make my head spin. I am just curious what works for this set up. Thanks guys.

GH Flora Series (grow, micro & bloom) is awesome & near fool proof. A great foundation off of which to learn and build with a really really easy application schedule. Just get a little ph down & a ph meter.

Always add the micro first, mix well before adding any other nutes, and DO NOT dip your nutrient applicator/measuring spoon into the nute containers. Rinse it before using on a subsequent nute. This helps avoid lock-up.

I'll recommend gh 3 part as well since you're looking for something that won't clog drippers.. Floranova is a good recommendation too, love it, but for drippers I would go with the 3 part/lucas formula due to the consistency of the nova.

Lucas formula couldn't be easier, it's just a certain amount of the Micro nute and the Bloom nute per gallon. I do remember it being a bit intimidating myself, bunch of numbers hehe, but I'll break it down for ya.

G-M-B (Grow-Micro-Bloom)
0-5-10 - For Vegetative cycle (18/6)
0-8-16 - For Flowering cycle (12/12)

So that means in veg, you'll give 5ml per gallon of the micro nute and 10ml of the bloom nute. In flower, 8ml micro and 16ml bloom per gallon. Get some teaspoon measuring spoon things, and they should list the amount of ml in each, but 1 teaspoon (tsp) is 5ml.

Give it a bing, lucas formula is pretty straightforward once it clicks for ya, and works great. 3 part is inexpensive too.

I like to add "dry koolbloom" in the last 3 weeks of flower before the flush, and molasses at 1tsp per gallon on and off in flower, but otherwise I'm feeding lucas formula and getting awesome results.

Here's a lucas fed plant so you can see how chunky they get..

flora nova is a must for all first time hydro growers... it will show them how little they need to grow... Dont hook them up with a hole line of advanced.. you will fk them up..

I use Botanicare Pro, MagiCal, Floralicious and Kool Bloom (Powder). This is my second run like this using these nutes and they were all huge. I have a Bubbledust that has been LST right now that you cant tell which shoot is the main one....almost all the tops are about fist size or bigger. However, I use a simple DWC and do not use drippers. Couldn't ever get the air tube to push water up. I didn't want to use a pump and air....just didn't feel it was necessary.

Good luck

Hydro + Advacned Nutrients = Big Buds

Hydro + Advacned Nutrients = Big Buds

Look, for hydro, I'm a big supporter of Advanced Nutrients. While I know you can use them for other mediums, the hydro grows I've done with AN have been amazeballs.

I'll use something like:

Sensi A&B
Voodoo
Big Bud
B-52
(sometimes Final Phase)

And once things get going, there's really nothing more you need to do. Sometimes, I'll start things off a little lighter for the nutes than I usually would, but that's nothing new. Gotta ease the plants into it, in my opinion.

Seriously though, withe the Advanced Nutrients calculator, you really can't go wrong. They like hold your hand through each growing stage so even a newbie could handle it. Well, one that likes a lot of handholding. I just tried a bunch of things like an idiot, then I found the calculator. Wow. So much easier.

So yea, for hydro, a lot of growers are really into the Advanced Nutrients lineup. The company says their stuff is made just for MJ, so that really caught my eye at first. And then as I started to see the results, I was hooked.

Lots of good advice here though, so do what works best for you. And keep a journal here - always fun to watch things grow...and grow...and grow...
