purple shmurple! Anthocyanins (which makes plants red/purple) are not psychoactive ... I don't know why people care so much about plants being purple - it's really no different to asking "whats the strain with the most orange pistils?" :)

Personally I prefer strains with high levels of psychoactive cannabinoids, or high yields, or nice flavors etc ... purple/red colors from anthocyanins are purely aesthetic and thus pointless IMHO ... :)

eheh :)

They are some very beautiful plants my friend, absolutely delicious looking :)

But take the anthocyanins out and they'd still be just as potent, just as psychoactive, just as appealling ... just not as purple ... :)

Color doesnt make a strain stronger then others.. I care about the potency and cannabinoids... If ya after a few pics of some purple stuff.. This is Mendo Purps at week 6

For color and a nice head go w/ something blueberry related. Be sure to bring the temps down and flush until she changes color.

Does purple not add to the taste? I hear purple herb is all about the grape flavour.

The flavor is NOT coming from the red/purple coloring (the anthocyanins), but the terpenes etc from the strain itself. If you take the anthocyanins away (so take the red/purple color away) it will still taste the same, and it will still be just as potent ... it just may not look as "pretty" to some who see purple coloring as an important attribute in a cannabis plant.

Anthocyanins again ...
They belong to a parent class of molecules called flavonoids synthesized via the phenylpropanoid pathway; they are odorless and nearly flavorless, contributing to taste as a moderately astringent sensation.

Consider Cinderella 99 for a sample comparison - she has such a strong pineapple smell and flavor yet exhibits no anthocyanins, and looks great on her own - the flavor is coming from the strain itself, not any anthocyanins.

Even in the Blueberry strain where anthocyanin production is very strong the flavor is still coming from the terpenes in the strain itself, not from any anthocyanins. They can just about be thought of as food dyes.

Yes they do look very nice - there's some absolutely gorgeous photos already posted in this thread!!! :)

But ..... yeah, I just feel sorry that there are some people out there (not in this thread) who equate a plant being purple to having anything to do with any other worthy attribute of the plant, such as its potency or yield or flavor etc ... but I blame them for not researching enough :)

People(not you Pheno) just dont understand the craze over purples and it is usually due to the lack of exp. with any Cali Purple cuts. I have grown most and the one underlying truth is taste. They taste like grape candy! They hit like a narcotic indica and did I mention they smoke like candy. Each one a little diff. but all are very tasty. That is why people go crazy for them. Its not hype or lack of any scientific knowledge. They are simply the best tasting herb most have ever tried. Some will chime in about their personal flavs and such but take any grape flavored purple strain and any other strain you choose and do a taste test with 10 people. 90% of the time they go for the grapes every time!!!My little Ron Burgundy omaage!
