Hey everyone... I've finally gotten to the point where I have a completely sealed room. My local purveyor of grow goodies then tried to tell me that a sealed room is more hassle than it's worth. So I put it to you, fellow growers- sealed, or unsealed?

depends on your environment...if you can pull outside air in thats not humidified or hot then its probibly not worth going sealed...around here its mandatory

But why run with lower levels of Co2 and get lower yields when you can amp it up and grow masses??? I mean if you could afford it that is.

Completelly sealed with an intake and extraction system (RUK fans). NO outdoor intake and a growroom extraction leading outdoors.

OMG, are we just trying to find out ways to use the voting threads or what? This solely depends on you and your skills as a grower. If you have fresh air entering your room or air adjustments then seal the room, if not open the freakin door... Damn, ICmagers, it's about time to just start thinking!!!! CO2 vs. Fresh Air, Door Closed Vs. Open, Cum on her stomach vs. her back, what's the difference???

Sorry Guys, Vote On!!!!

Because pumping outdoors air is a magnet for spidermites and other plant pests. Thats why. If you know anything about plant pests then you would not be asking this silly question.
ROOM SEALED !!!!!!

The outside worlds ~300PPM of CO2 is not optimal for fast plant growth. Sealing it up so we can pump it to 1500 ppm IS better for growing.

There are limiting factors to anything, but a sealed CO2 room vs an air-cooled grow will turn out better crops and yields on average.

Sealed in my case ;)
But many are not aware of what it takes in order to dial in a sealed space. Most do not take the make up of their building materials into consideration, so 'outgassing' is very real issue one has to deal with. My first 3 grows in a sealed space or 'cge' environment wen to shit due to outgassing. Furthermore, a cge environment is VERY unforgiving as it relates to equipment failures i.e. de-humidifier, carbon filtration, co2 regulation etc.
And yes, you will need all the goodies to make this work ;)
Carbon or hepa air filtration is a must!!! Don't let anyone tell you you do not need it since the space is sealed. You need it because of build up of toxins.
Also feeding changes dramatically due to accelerated nute up take from the increased co2..... and on and on.
My bottom line, it's great once it is dialed in, but be prepared for some frustration and possible lost harvests and reduced yield until you get there;)
I'm finally getting a decent harvest for the first time in this space, and they are finishing up about 1-2 weeks early due to the co2

Good luck guys!

Voted, in for indoor growing in sealed and private enviroment. growing out door's can lead to more then bug/pest problems (same can be said for indoors but I firmly belive out of sight out of mind)

Wait, what?

Carbon filters ALWAYS.
HEPA on air intakes good idea too.

Build up of toxins?

Do you mean spores, pollen, spidermites? Or is mercury going to accumulate in my atmosphere if I don't have a hepa filter?

Just razzin ya, but please explain.

sealed room for sure...

I, like the original post, had the guys at my local hydro store tried to tell me otherwise. I laughed in their face literally

I've never tried a sealed room.
I think the big drawback must be that you're forced to use AC - the watts used for AC could be used for more light in an unsealed room - so an unsealed room running the same total watts for all appliances combined would have 1/4 - 1/3 more light, meaning the results have to be better by a pretty large margin.

as far as performance goes, a sealed room with co2 will be vastly superior to a non sealed room..

however

if you take into account electrical consumption a non sealed room can be a better option..

for example, if you have to have a dehumidifier, and an a/c in a sealed room of decent size, lets say running 4000w.. that can easily be an extra 2000w for those two necessities alone.. whereas if you have a favorable climate, and use FILTERED outdoor air to cool your room, and your lights, as well as keep the humidity down due to air exchange,
you could add an extra 2k of lighting.. and i doubt anyone will disagree that a dialed in sealed room with 4000w will outperform a dialed in, non sealed room with 6000w

Sealed room minimum 50 watts sq ft 1500PPM co2 85 degrees F humidity and 50% RH first 3 weeks or so during stretch, then lowered to 40% RH when flowering.

if you are forced to choose between an AC or an extra light, then a sealed room is not for you. they are not low-budget setups. they use slightly more electricity. but they will always perform better. this is why co2 is usually the LAST thing that a grower will add to his/her garden.

besides, i don't think AC/fan power usage is a factor when calculating grams-per-watt, is it?

^for your comparison, it would be a 4KW sealed room or a 5KW unsealed room, not 6KW. only a fool would use 2KW of AC to cool four lights. when i ran a 4KW sealed room i used a 960watt 10kbtu window AC. And even in an unsealed room you still use some watts for inline fans , thermostats, etc..

edit: why do ppl think that unsealed rooms don't need dehueys??
