Monsanto's GMO Corn Linked To Organ Failure, Study Reveals

Ok, this is bad news. No doubt about that.

But before everyone gets their panties in a bunch this study involves only three GM strains: NK 603 has been modified to be tolerant to the broad spectrum herbicide Roundup and thus contains residues of this formulation. MON 810 and MON 863 are engineered to synthesize two different Bt toxins used as insecticides. They're not slamming everything GM. Inserting "poison" producing genes obviously had some side effects.

So while these 3 strains of corn are not good for the livers and kidneys of rats the authors themselves even say that more work needs to be done before some concrete conclusion can be reached.
The "western diet" isn't great for your organs either, if ya look at things on a broader scale.

So we are supposed to just keep producing and consuming this stuff for 3 years while they solidify their results on the corn harming us?

And what is the "western diet"? never heard of that one.

I think he meant to say the "typical" American diet............if he meant the diet of western civilization, it would be very incorrect, many regions of the western world have diets that are exceedingly healthy, like the Mediterranean.

I vaguely recall something about organisms' reproduction being able to recognize foreign genes and not pass them on somehow. It sort of makes sense that fish genes won't be passed to offspring, but I really don't know if that's true.

Ya, that's what I meant. There's a reason diabetes is through the roof, along with the countless other medical conditions Americans suffer due to their diet.

Eat locally and sustainably.

Ya this doesn't make any sense. You might have been thinking of mutations in somatic cells (body cells) not being passed on to offspring.

What, you want to just forget the investigation and leap right to the execution of the scientists, managers, corporate officers, board members, stockholders, workers and wholesalers just to be sure you nipped the conspiracy in the bud?

If you are so friggin' frightened that this firm possibility of a definite maybe - to rats mind you - is going to result in your lily white ass being hung out to dry by the corporate profit-mongering nazi establishment you could always stop eating corn.

Pretty simple. You don't like the product, don't buy it. That's what makes capitalism great. If it is a great product then people will buy it and the people that make it and put the money up to fund the business that makes the product make a profit.

That's how real jobs are created son. Do you think the tooth fairy creates jobs, wealth and prosperity? Do you honestly think government creates jobs, wealth and prosperity? Are you insane or just so totally out of touch with the reality of how modern economic society's are ordered that assuming someone else's profit motive has to come at your personal expense is somehow not acceptable to you, but you participate in the very same economy, under the very same circumstances and - by your definition - your job comes at the cost of someone else. So where does it end?

What's okay with you? You should be god and you should be telling the people who put REAL MONEY at risk in these companies that you are going to decide how much profit they get to make and how the profits will be spent.

We have a name for that - it's called tyranny and we split with the people across the pond over 250 years ago to put an end to that very premise so maybe it isn't a good idea to try and bring back, being how so many of your ancestors fought, put their blood and their money into a system so you could stand back and have the opportunity to play god and suggest that the system is unfair because they came up with a product that you don't like. Big fucking deal. People make products all the time that don't exactly work out. Do you want to have them punished for what you believe to be a waste of their time or resources?

What is wrong with you people? There's a firm chance that maybe this is bad for fucking lab rats. Big deal. It's okay to be concerned, but to call them dirty rotten corporate nazis for trying to make better corn? Isn't that a wee bit overboard? Isn't that just a wee bit hypocritical? Companies are chartered not to provide jobs and not to promote social welfare. That's the drivel you learned from liberal loons who never had to be responsible for turning an actual profit. Companies exist to generate profits for their shareholders - they have no other purpose.

Deep breath time.

End of rant.

MPD corn is in about 90% of the food products we consume, so simply not buying corn isnt much of an option for most people.

this shits a pretty big deal imo. im sure nothing will be sorted out, all will continue as is and the casualties will go unnoticed. While we're not lab rats (some may beg to differ) we should still be concerned

It's not just that, but why would farmers grown a conventional strain of corn that yields 100 bushels/acre when they can grow Monsanto's variety that yields 200 bushels/acre?

Which pays the bills? I think it's a pretty easy decesion for most farmers.

Forbes recently named Monsanto as their company of the year for 2009. This just makes me sick. The FDA and Monsanto sleep in the same bed at night.

No surprise here. Monstanto has been killing Americans for YEARS. What sucks is Mexican "PURE" corn genetics are being cross pollinated with this garbage. Very sad, no wonder Europe has banned these GMOs.

Are GMO corn specially marked or tagged in the stores? Or do they appear as ordinary as any other vegetable or fruit?
Not required in the USA I believe, if they did you wouldn't buy it, and the whole artificial corn subsidizing system would crash.

It is not in sale in normal grocery stores, because it tastes shit. People cannot/don't want eat GMO corn without processing it to something else. So corn is made to syrup with chemicals. Saw that Monsanto document in TV. Absurd, but it was all cash cropping.

Why don't they just get it over with and go straight to making Soylent Green?

and 3 strains of GM corn cause organ failure...

You cannot breed a GMO... you have to modify the genome manually.

yup. people need to nail this fact through their head real well...

it is still easy to find people thinking that GM equals Selective Breeding...

but they are all wrong of course.

be well

Now they have these stupid commercials too! (There are a few of them but I'll use this as an example) - There is a commercial on T.V with one white lady and one black lady. It looks as though the white lady brang her kids (as with other people) to the black lady's house and the black lady is pouring juice for all the kids in cups.

The white lady kind of whispers under her breath to the black lady:

White lady: Wow, you really don't care what you feed your kids huh?

Black lady: Huh??

White lady: Well, you know, that drink your serving all the kids has High Fructose Corn Syrup in it, and...................... you know what they say about High Fructose Corn Syrup?

Black lady: What do they say??

White lady: Well..... you know...... (kind of making eye gestures and acting like she is stumped on the question)

Black lady: That High Fructose Corn Syrup is made from Corn? That it's just like sugar and safe if taken in moderation?

(And then both ladies start smiling)

White lady: (Feels stupid and looks around) WOW - I love your blouse!! (to the black lady)

Black lady: Well THANK YOU!!

The commercial is over.

There are three other commercials like this, telling all the stupid new age idiots out there that believe everything they see on TV that High Fructose Corn Syrup is good for you! You will see people's worries start falling away as they read "High Fructose Corn Syrup" on the back of everything they buy, and they will think it's o.k because the commercials tell them it's o.k.

We could get into all the bad items they allow us to take, but aspartame just completely takes the cake!! It's usually in Diet drinks, Diet Pepsi for example. Just go online and read about the negative health benefits from aspartame. Those are just a few in the pot, it's really sad what they do to us. And that we allow them to do it is even sadder!!
