Sweet, I'll definitely see it in the theaters then, I do get bored pretty easily in 3 ghour movies and have fallen asleep several times specially with alot of boring convo movies, but then there are movies that have me on the edge of my seat like City of God, Slumdog Millionaire, Bionic Ninja LOL...

I also saw it in 3D..totally worth it, even though it was like $10/person. It was 3 hours long but they were an enjoyable 3 hours, and unlike the Lord of the Rings movies, which were way over 3 hours long, this movie actually makes sense.

And it's not that you'll hate Earth. You'll love Mother Earth even more afterwards, but you might hate a few more people, lol.

And I don't think it only applies to Native Americans. It applies to situations in which an imperialistic power has tried taking over other countries/peoples whom they thought were "uncivilized" or "savage."

Yeah, I've already lost faith in most of humanity, it may well depress me..

I agree Hippie. I was just using Native Americans because the people in the movie more resembled them. In regards to respecting the earth.

The coolest thing about it is the fact that they were motion capturing in real-time, they basically had a green/blue set loaded up with the world like a video game and the actors would act in this virtual world and the director had a screen that would show how they were interacting with the environment etc. its my understanding that this has never been done before hence it being such an advancement. The movie is 60% CGI 40% Realtime but id say its mostly CGI theres only some scenes that "may" have been filmed on a real set.

no way man, the movie is 99% CGI, and i havent even seen it yet...

but i did watch how they made it. Company in england(memory fades already?) using next gen cameras and CGI to make the whole thing, they even made a subpar version of the movie to show what it would look like before the final rendering; i saw some of the footage of the robot walking into the spaceship in the subpar rendering, which still looks like starship trooper caliber of CGI, damn good even for this day, cant wait to see what the CGI youre all blabbing about looks like! everyone i know has already seen it though, guess ill go alone or pirate the shit out of it:/

I downloaded a really good "cam" copy - best I've ever seen...

The movie blew me away - other flicks you point out the cgi/effects, this movie was one solid effect from start to finish.

3 hours seemed like 1...

Damn fine movie...

its an entertaining movie.... Its like a mixture of star wars, fern gully, dances with wolves and pocahontas.

I like the story in a lot of ways and it attempts to link itself to contemporary issues such as the war in Irak to gain control of resources. I really like the portrayl of the connection between nature and the aliens, it follows the typical heroes story and is predictable. It culminates in typical Holywood fashion. The story is quite eurocentric and fails to portray how big industries still currently displace indiginous comunities for resource extraction such as mining outside of Irak today. I find it bothersome that the film portrays the solution as war. I think the film would have been much more artistic if they more acurately parralleled problems in the world and portrayed the irony and sense of urgency of the problem and ended it there..... without the fairytale ending, leaving you thinking.
Nonetheless I wish this Movie was out when I was 10 years old it definately would have been my favorite

OK classy I gotta see that. I'm the best test for this, if I don't yawn or look at my watch, I will be impressed.

Great review Croissant, you stated what you liked and what could have made it even better without ruining it for me. Are you in the movie business? You'd make a great reviewer (critic?) Did you see it in 3D? Is it in 3D, Imax 3D and regular cinema?

I do think that movies like these are sort of a step in the right direction. Many books have been written on the subject of imperialism/colonialism and the effects of these over indigenous peoples/natives, but I think the medium of film can make those messages much more clear and spread them, too.

I do not think the film could have ended in any other way, if it were to be a "good" or "interesting" film. Would it have been a better film if it had ended with a nice round table talk between the natives and the plunderers? That would be the ideal solution, but sadly, in both reality and fiction, it is not.

I do not really understand your review, Croissant, because it seems that you contradict yourself with this:

"I like the story in a lot of ways and it attempts to link itself to contemporary issues such as the war in Irak to gain control of resources."

and this:

"The story is quite eurocentric and fails to portray how big industries still currently displace indiginous comunities for resource extraction such as mining outside of Irak today."

Please tell me if I have misunderstood you! :)

I do agree, however, that the fairy tale ending is a little absurd and follows the norm. However, I think that the overarching themes are emphasized over the ending.
