Indispensible tool

Kind of like the microwave oven in that after you own one you can't do without it.

Shown in the images below are this amazing tool at work telling me the temperature of something real hot, and something that has to stay between 80 and 90 degrees American.

The tool is called a CENT-TECH Non contact laser thermometor, item 91778 (there's enough keywords to find a similar product for about $30)

Highly recommended as it has other uses besides surface temperatures. I've used it to find a hot extension cord running at 115 degrees at the plug in a 50 degree closet (an almost guaranteed fire).

Wanna know the temperature of the plant, and not the air in the vicinity of the plant. Point the red dot right where you want it.

Get one :)

Yea man, these are awesome, but I have yet to get one. If I had known they were that cheap, I'd have one already.
Thanks for that.
Peace

Here it is telling me the real temperature of the top bud. My thermometer tells me its 69 degrees in the grow closet. But the laser tells me the bud is at 77 degrees. :)

I was disappointed after I bought a Mastercool IR thermometer--my cat won't play with the laser!
Too old, I guess.

Home inspectors use these all the time. Paid a bill for a nice one in 05, accurate within .1* at 100 ft.

yeh!

Hell yes! I highly recommend these as well. I paid 25$ for a RYOBI one at homedepot, now that I've owned one I'd easily pay 50$. Best grow investment I've made, it's so nice and easy being able to check the soil or plant temps directly and instantly...you can even hold the trigger down and move it around looking for hotspots.

as far as I can tell you can point it at just about anything, as long as it's not highly reflective. You won't get an accurate reading off of a reflective surface because it probably "sees" both light points and averages the 2 based on how much of the laser light each is absorbing or whatever. if you did ned tomeasure a shinny surface you could put a black dot or something on it and measure that point, such as a black magic marker dot on a reflector....as far as the bulb goes maybe if it was nice and clean you could measure the inside components or something. either way -most handy tool ever.

I have a small one and its great.
I get instant readings from the walls, plant, light, ballast, reservoir and exiting air temp. All in less time than it took you to read this post.

Definitely a worthwhile investment, and there are numerous brands and price ranges available to fit for any budget. Thanks everyone for posting about these highly useful devices! This is the first time I've seen them. I'd say that any indoor grow should have a decent one.
