Hey tent users, I found a great product to lightproof our intakes. I was not satisfied with using silver ducting or making a cardboard light trap. So while at Lowe's today I was looking for a solution...and found it!

Go to the irrigation isle, and they have this solid black flex-drain. They are 4 inch, so they fit the intakes well with drawstrings. They have 2 sizes and are not expensive at all. They expand and can be shaped how ever you like. I put a small section on my tent, and it immediatly took away 100 percent of the light!! I bought 25 feet worth for 15 bucks, enough to do a few tents. They have a smaller one for 8 bucks. Anyways, here is a link to the product, get the solid one, the other has holes.

I also filter my intakes, which is a very good idea for anyone who doesnt. The best part about this flex-drain, is that you do not have to do anything but cut the length you want and shape it. No painting, no taping, and it is by far the cheapest way I have ever lightproofed anything. Darkroom louvers cost me a pretty penny for my cabinet! Anyways, I hope someone finds use of this stuff...it works great.

These could be used for any cabinet also. Seriously lightproofing is a bitch sometimes, this stuff is the best thing I have ever used by far. Cheap too! I spent way more on PVC and black paint just to do one little cab...plus you have to cut it, paint it and adjust. This stuff will expand and shape perfect for your needs. Cannot believe I never saw it before, but damn I am so happy I found it!!

Flex Duct has pinholes and is reflective, this is better...it is solid black
Not sure if they have it in 6 inch, but most smaller tents wont fit 6 inch

Prolly seasonal, or out of stock. I would just call and ask them to see who has it in your area. Every store can look up inventory from local stores. It is in the outdoor sprinkler and drainage isle. The store I went to had alot left, but I have never seen it before...of course I wasnt always looking and it was a different Lowes.

Here is a link to the othe stores that carry it. Call them to see. Just make sure you get the solid. You can order it online from a few spots too. Good luck

Anyone else you this stuff yet? Just lighproofed another tent, and it took less than 2 minutes! By far the cheapest and easiest way to lightproof intakes. I have tried eveything under the sun, and wasted alot of money trying to lightproof cabinets in the past. It blows every other way out of the water. Really hope some people try this method out, it is very usefull stuff.

In my yard, sure. (This post is a "duh, why didn't I think of that!") Seems to hold up well enough under the Seattle sun (drain spout extensions). I'd think this would provide smoother air flow than flex ducting.
My local hardware store has coils of ABS out back. They sell it by the foot (don't need 100' for my HydroHut).

This Flex-Drain is a tad different than the huge rolls. It can be easily shaped and cut into any length. It comes in 2 different lengths, and expands from 6-25 ft. It was 8 bucks for the small one and 15 for the larger. The larger one could do 3 tents. Anyways, give it a try...just make a "S" with it how ever long you want, you cant see anything!!
