Curious Giant Finds Hempy

Wow, sorry for the lack of updates.. Things have been moving slowly here. I think they just hit the res in the past couple days, and I am expecting some action soon. I have been feeding with 50-75% strength still.

I noticed some major growth today but some damage as well. Temps and humidity have been consistent and good afaik.

Are they hungry or or overfed??

Alright, feeding with 8ml of micro and 16ml of bloom per gal of RO water. It came out to be about 880ppm and pH 5.3.

I think thats a good idea, they look hungry.

My hempies have been asking for 8-16 lucas at every watering.

Every strain is different so you have to watch the leafs and find the happy zone.

Any yellowing or spots means your too low and the plant is deficient. Very Dark green leafs that curl mean your too high and close to burning. Thats when you flush with water only and let some runoff.

pH is too low for hempys.

i run like 5.9-6.2 depending on the day and what nute regiment we are on.

just my 2cents but i'd raise that pH a bit

that smell

Up that ph to 6.0-6.1 , if not you will have mag issues as it is locked out at < 5.7. On top of that you are using RO water which has no cal or mag. Increase ph, use either epsom salt at 1 tsp per gallon or cal-mag supplement.

Normally when I feed at 50% strength it is about 5.8.. This is the first time it has been that low, so I am not worried about it. Is it normal to have to use pH up to get it back to 6.2? My RO water is about 6.5, and the lucas formula says "leave it alone". Thanks guys!

They look great tonight after the feeding this morning! Much more green and perky! I am noticing some major growth now..

Girls are definitely growing now, but they dont look real happy to me yet. I fed them full strength nutes at almost 900ppm 3 days ago, followed by just RO water pH 5.8, followed by one day of nothing (yesterday). Today they look nice and perky, but they look a little light in color to me. Temps were good this morning at 73*f and 23% RH.

I checked the runoff this morning and it was 301ppm and 6.8pH. This gives me two thoughts: feed more, and ph lower. They obviously are hungry, so I will hit them with full strength again today and see how they look tomorrow. I think I would be better off feeding at pH 5.3 and letting it rise to 5.8, than feeding at 5.8 and letting it rise to 6.8 again. I will probably start with something like 5.5 today, then see what happens with my runoff tomorrow.

The soil girls are looking good as well! I have been feeding with fox farm nutes at 50% for now. They are still in 1.5gal pots and I am not quite sure what I am going to do with them..

Please excuse the dead growth, I need to just trim that.. :xmasnut:

I am noticing some tip burn on the top, obvious heat stress, but I cant raise my light any more! I am not quite sure what to do though, given their current size.. Flower now and hope for the best? Try some LST? Topping?

Things are moving along nicely here! I have got to say that I am having a blast so far with this "hydro" setup. I have been feeding every 2 days with full strength nutes (8:16 micro/bloom with some calmag) at 5.7-5.8 with no ill effects that I can see. These girls are really starting to perk up and get some color in them.

If you look closely, the plants in the front look smaller than the back. I could not figure out why for the life of me. I spent a fair amount of time checking everything I could think of for problems, but everything looked perfect.. Then I realized, they were potted 3-4 days later! I am expecting to see some major improvements in all of them in the next day or two. :D

For comparison, this is what tent #2 looks like:

Look at that Pre-98 Bubba in the front center.. I think I will veg her out and use her as a mother.

at first i thought your hempys might need more nitrogen ... now i am thinking you are looking at a magnesium deficiency. that whole starting to yellow on the outside and the darker veins of the leaves, working its way up from the bottom ... the new growth will look ok but i think you gotta get that fixed.

do you have any calmag? with RO you tend to lack certain nutrients that is in well or city water.

just my :twocents: but i'd at least think about it

I have been adding calmag at 5ml per gal for the past 2 waterings, although with the lucas formula I am not supposed to need it.. Do you think I should up the amount?

General Hydroponics Flora Series Feeding Strategy - Lucas Formula

G-M-B (Grow-Micro-Bloom)
0-5-10 - For Vegetative cycle (18/6)
0-8-16 - For Flowering cycle (12/12)

The numbers above indicate the number of milliliters (ml) of Flora Grow, Micro or Bloom formulas that I use in one gallon (US Liquid) of nutrients.

You will notice I dont use any of the Flora “Grow” formula, do not need to, the Flora "Micro" provides plenty of Nitrogen.

For young plants, just transplanted into the hydro setup, give them 50% strength nutrient mix to prevent overfeeding them while their young. Gradually bring up the mix to full strength as they grow over the next few weeks or so.

The lucas formula is normally intended for use with RO or near 0 PPM water.

NOTE: The Lucas formula eliminates the need for Epsom salts to correct (Magnesium) Mg deficiencies in most normal feeding programs recommended by manufacturers. Cannabis needs a lot of Magnesium to thrive.

The Flora Micro is providing the Nitrogen and the Magnesium in the proper balance, thus there is no need for the Grow formula and little or no room under the maximum acceptable ppm limit of 1600 @ 0.7 conversion.

Lookin' better every day! I hit them with straight water at pH 5.8 today because they may be looking a bit burned at the tips. Now that they are back on track I will be moving to a feed every other watering schedule.

Soil girls are still looking good. I have notice the beginings of some twisting on a couple of them today. Temps went way up the past couple days, and Im not sure if that is causing the twisting or not. It has been in the low 80s, but peaking in the low 90s.

Whoa, scary! It looks like someone replaced my little girls with monsters while I was snoozing! They are now officially taller than the ones in the soil tent.

Major update! I decided that these big girls wanted more light, so I did a little engineering work and combined the two tents. Now I am running 10 plants (I got rid of the 2 hempys that were frozen in time) under 1200 watts in a 4x4 space. Its a little cramped in the back seat, but I think we are in for an interesting ride!

DSC_0024.JPG

You can see the hempy girls look a little droopy. Two days ago I flushed them with 2gal each of straight RO water (ph was about 6.5), then let them dry out for half a day. Yesterday I watered them as normal with a little boost in cal-mag. I think this may have been too much, so I hit them with RO water at ph 5.8 today.

The soil girls in the front are obviously hungry, so I watered them with a little bit of the fox farm grow nutes, pH'd to 6.5-6.6. I think they were neglected in the feeding department, but with everything in one tent it should be easier to monitor from now on..

Temps in the tent were surprisingly cool over night. I woke up to see them at about 80*f at 40%RH. My plan is to switch them to 12/12 tonight.

Anyone still listening in here??

Day 2 of 1200w lighting.. The hempys I think are looking worse.. They are yellowing and drooping slightly. Its more noticeable in the pics than in person, I would say.

A slight amount of burn on this guy..
DSC_0026.JPG

And some white spotting on one of the soil girls. Is this a Phosphorus deficiency? I tried rubbing the spots with my finger, and it did not come off..
