Great show. I had read the book and watched the show last night. We are plants bitches! It really made me want to plant Tulips. Very interesting and well done.

Great show, it's very rare that I actually find something worth watching on TV. Happy they showed MJ in a positive light, way to go PBS!

I almost liked it BUT, I am against labling cannabis gardeners as un-natural selectionists.
It is always disturbing to hear a narrative which paints cannabis growers as manipulationg nature's botany/potency/safety...to ,make plants that are unnatural since the legal status pushes on consumers to create dangerously potent cannabis, as a result of trying to adapt it into an indoor enviroment.
It is just not true that humans have disfigured the cannabis high, and it's strength...as a result of indoor propagation.
RECOGNIze 'when' the corporation flagrantly tags your behavior as harmful to the innate medicinal and experiential designs, that human breeder desgnate to strains.
It is time to abstain from the purposeful contorting of cannabis medicines global value and incremental evolution of strain creation and subsequent new reation safties!
Sure, you can breed a strain that has unintended side effects when combined with alcohol or mind bending drugs... sometimes a dangerous duality exists between head/ and/or body high cannabis,...and other molecules, medicines or enviro interactions...which can increase toxicity of mild drugs witin the routine safe environment...up to 100-1000 fold. -But...................................this is very rare. Cannabis is a molecular constituent profile, which is never a singular, predictable experience.
We are all adults....and all drugs need careful monitering during production and trials...which includes initial and long term professional observations.
I don't think we are criminal just because we propagate new drug cannabis results...though I do admit that cannabis preparations are ALWAYS dangerous substances to be used by operators of machinery which can result in fatality, or less letal collusions which coincide with inexperienced users/ and/or new constituent profile types.
I have been sipping alcohol during this post, but I think you understand my perspectives and negative evaluations of the video production we are discussing.

I loved the part where they talked about apple trees being vilified during prohibition and how the orchards were cut down. Sound familiar? Now there are apples grown everywhere and the idea that they were illegal is laughable. The times they are a changing.

This is currently airing on PBS. The marijuana portion was very well done, with excellent information and video. One of the experts summed up budding as the "extreme sexual frustration of the females" which is an awesome way to put it.
Anyways check it out it's worth the time.

I agree. I am filled with hope. The war on Cannabis has been going on for slightly more than 70 years. In the big picture that is a relatively short amount of time.

I've read the book and seen the show. They are pretty different. The show just follows along the theme of the book with some pollan commentary and experts. My dad also taped it but pbs in my hometown area cut out the damn cannabis segment.
The thing that was in the movie (not book) that I had the most questions about was the claim cannabis evolved trichomes in order to aid in capturing pollen.
Traditional hypothesis of the evolution of cannabinoid-rich, capitate-stalked trichomes as defense against herbivory and UV radiation. With artificial selection further driving evolution of varieties with increased trichome occurrence, and resin production.
The suggestion that trichomes could assist in pollen capture surprised me. Cannabis is wind pollinated and if they are capable of assisting successful pollen capture it seems like a viable hypothesis. I am unconvinced, however, that pollen captured on a resinous leaf, bract, or even a calyx has increased its chance of finding a viable pistil over a free flowing air-borne grain.

I just watched this last night and it was incredible. You can watch it on Netflix through Watch Now. Highly recommended. PBS really surprised me with this, I am buying Michael Pollan's book ASAP after reading this thread. Even better, they have lesson plans on PBS's website on every segment, including cannabis.
