Have to rant about my new PS3 game I can't play.. Advice Appreciated!!

So I pre-ordered for the release of the new game for the Call of Duty series, Modern Warfare 2 for PS3. I haven't owned any of the previous Call of Duty's (COD) but I play WaW and the first MW at my friends houses online and love playing it, so I was super psyched to get my own copy of the new MW2 so I can play online at my house.. Even tried to pre-order the prestige pack with real night-vision goggles (great for outdoor grows) but it was sold out!!

Anyways, I showed up to GameStop with a blunt burning for the midnight release at about midnight and waited til about 1am til I finally got into the store and got my copy of Modern Warfare 2, i aslo bought a headset since I love online gameplay.
...I go home with a couple buddies and a couple blunts and put in the highly anticipated new COD to find my PS3 has stopped reading disks. I haven't used it in awhile so I don't know when this happened. I still haven't played my new COD and I got pre-ordered it and got it at midnight and waited in line for an hour for a reason!! :yoinks:

Upon further investigation of my PS3, I notice when I put any disk in and leave it for a few seconds, the disk coems out in the same position, telling me its not spinning and my blu-ray player's motor is dead. No disks work :mad:

I have the original 60gb PS3 and paid about $800 for it about 6 months after PS3 was released (over 3 years ago I think), along with a 2-year BestBuy warranty which I lost and is also long expired I'm pretty sure. The receipt and original packaging is also lost. I heard I can send my Ps3 to sony and pay $150 for repairs or a refurbished one and that will take at least 2 months to get a working PS3. I'm better off buying the new one, whichs ucks cause I've had no problems with my 60gb PS3 til now and it has a lot of cool extra features..

I'm just so pissed off I want to play my new Call of Duty.. This sucks! Any suggestions? :(

So I guess this thread should be titled "Any Advice on a 60gb PS3's Broken Blu-Ray Motor?", since the disks won't spin in the blu-ray player or read on the PS3 system. Even though I posted this thread because I'm pissed I can't play my Modern Warfare 2 that I pre-ordered and went through hell to get.

Anybody have any tips??

try returning it and getting a new disc, ive gotten a bum disc from time to time, hopefully it isnt sold out. try bringing your ps3 into game stop also. do other games work?

I should've explained better. I haven't played my PS3 in awhile but the last time I tried to play a disk it was a used copy of NHL 08 I bought a few months ago. My PS3 didn't read the disk (like it still won't), so I thought I just had a bunk used game.

Last nite after I waited in line to get Modern Warfare, I put the disk in after I just opened the game and had the same problem. That's when I figured out the blu-ray player was messed up, and later found out that the motor in the blu-ray in my PS3 was dead because the disks don't spin when I put them in. The disk will come out in the same position, meaning the blu-ray player's motor is dead in the PS3 and needs to be replaced or somehow fixed.

If it was just a dirty lens in my blu-ray player like I thought at first, I could just get a blu-ray cleaner disk to put in my PS3 and solve the problem. Now I might be off getting a new PS3 instead of waiting 2 months to pay $200 in repairs. And I tried multiple PS3 games I have, blu-ray movies, audio cd's - my PS3 can't read any of them and they all come out in the same position I put them in, telling me the blu-ray motor in my PS3 is dead and the disks won't spin. :mad:

I got my PS3 about 3 years ago from Best Buy, its a 60gb with no receipt.

sell it on ebay or something, maybe youll get like 50-100, people LOVE those 60gbs and they are worth alot of money because they play old ps2 games and whatnot. also 4 usb ports right?

when shit like that happens its like god himself has shit on you.


buy a new one, $299 120gb slim. you'll end up paying only 100 more and have a new nice piece of equipment that shouldnt give you any problems for years.

Wait so your previous game already didn't work and you had no other games to check this with? I definitely wouldn't have spent all that time, money and excitement if I thought my console might be messed up. Best advice I can give is scrap the PS3 and build your own PC rig for about the same price you paid for your 60 gig.

It's hard to explain. I just started blazing again and my thought process has been a bit delayed. I bought the NHL game a couple months ago and it worked fine at first, than the PS3 stopped reading the disk so I just thought the used game i bought went to shit. My other games and blu-ray movies are old and boring from when PS3 came out so I never use them, and have just been waiting for the new Call of Duty since i pre-ordered it a month ago.

It never registered to me when the only other disk I used for my PS3 stopped working (used NHL 08), that my PS3 stopped reading disks and it wasn't a problem with the disk itself. I wish I found out before I popped in my new Modern Warfare 2 game just after its release at midnight that I was so excited about, haha..

Oh well, I just got to play the game at a friends house and logged in under my PSN name so I got the stats, the games pretty nasty!! Other than that, things have been going good lately and I have some extra change so I'll just buy the 120gb like you said for $299 and sell my broken 60gb later.
... I like my 60gb cause its unique and has some cool extra features, but I never really play PS1/PS2 games anyway and don't feel like waiting for repairs or a refurbished.. I'll probably just look at the differences in features with the 120gb and probably end up buying that with my extra cash so I can finally play this kick ass game at my own house.

What do you guys think?

Sucks buddy, THE GAME FUCKING ROCKSSSS. I suggest this: get off your computer NOW, roll a joint of some of your finest, go buy a new ps3, go home, roll another joint, and hop online.

Wayyy ahead of you thats why I haven't replied.. It worked out perfectly, yesterday was labor day so no work or classes, I woke up, smoked a huge blunt with my friends, went to the mall and bought a new 120gb Slim PS3, came home, smoked another blunt, and have been playing MW2 ever since!!

you can put that bitch on payments for up to 6 months no interest! i love financing!!
