Facts of Light by Dr. Sanjay Joshi, Ph.D.

Dr. Joshi's series is a great starting point for anyone that is still thinking in terms of watts, lumens, kelvin, CRI and any other measurements of light that plants do not understand.

His stuff is very well written and relatively easy to understand. It's clearly aimed at someone like me that struggled with math and natural sciences in high school.

Part I: What is Light?

Part II: Photons

Part III: Making Sense of Light Measures

Part IV: Color Temperature

Part V: Everything You Need to Know About Metal Halide Lamps and Ballasts

If one searches for Joshi's name, many other articles can be found posted at various reef sources.
