Where's a good place to live in Michigan?

Kicking around the idea of relocating there, haven't the slightest idea where and where not to move to in the state.

Any help would be great.

DRUM ROLL!

Don't go anywhere near Detroit. First warning about Michigan, no jobs! Don't move to Flint, Saginaw, or Detroit unless you like living in one of the top 5 most crime ridden cities in the US. Tell us what your looking for?

Country living, urban area? Lived here my whole life except time in the Army, know the whole state pretty well, just be more specific.

Just as an aside, if you're doing it exclusively because you want to become a full-time grower via the newly-minted medical program, imo you can do better. Cops, particularly in the more rural areas, have a reputation for simply not giving a fuck, and harassing stoners. Particularly in the Upper Pen. where it's more country(and more beautiful).

If you're just trying to do legal garden thing and don't care about weather I'd look at Maine. Even a lot of the cops have a more libertarian, bohemian vibe. 99 plants is a misdemeanor, even without a medical card.

If you're hell-bent on Michigan, though, places like Grand Rapids have a low cost of living and are relatively safe. Ann Arbor is my favorite spot in Michigan, but alas you pay for it(well, it's still cheap, but expensive for the Midwest).

Kalamazoo area is 2 hrs from Chicago and the med legislation passed there with a higher percentage vote than Obama.

Trust me i am not hell bent on any place. EX and the kids are moving back to IL and I kind of wanna stay a few hours from them, not a few days.
No just looking for some garden fun for myself. No intent on cash cropping.

Ill look at the two places you dropped.
Thx DtC:smokeit:

It's difficult to use the word "Good" and "Michigan" in the same sentence today.

I have family out there and it is not fun. Everything you read is absolutely true, the economy is in the shitter, you WILL 100% get killed in Detroit, and there still are 'some' good areas left but even now homeless people are moving into the homes that are going into foreclosure (they are not "moving" in, they are sleeping in a house with no one in it) and robbers are driving through nicer neighborhoods to plot on homes where no one lives anymore. They are reaching even the best areas.

West Bloomfield is a beautiful place to live (if you have money, and if your Jewish it helps also), Royal Oak is also a great place (again if you have money and value your life), or you can move to Northern Michigan, Ann Arbor is really nice too. But basically, you have about 4 different areas to choose from. You can take out a map, look at eeeeeeeeeeevery city in the entire STATE, and you literally have a choice of about 4 places to pick. Probably out of 60 or more to choose from.

The best thing to do (when speaking about Michigan) is take out 4 pieces of paper, write down 4 cities, shuffle them around and pick one. It is a gamble moving anywhere near that place and any paper you would have picked is about the same right now!

Look at the s0outhwest corner of MI
sometimes called Michiana.
Its closest to illinois and is more in the orbit
of chicago than Michigan.
The Lake Michigan shoreline make this area
a tourist area of sorts but still inexpensive.

If you do not live in Michigan already, do your self a favor and go somewhere else. Unless you like to live on unemployment. You better have a job or know somebody who can get you one, because you will have a hard time finding one! If you already live there, I would second the KZOO area. Depending on how old you are, maybe you could score a college hottie from Western. Oh yeah, dont buy a house in MI either. Unless you really wanna lose money. Good luck.

Damn, sounds like Michigan is a no go.
I had heard it was bad, but sounds to be really bad. Maybe Maine might be better.
I am sick and tired of having to worry about the old lady getting my ass thrown in the clinker.

Even as I sit right now in a food joint with free wifi because the law was at my house again for the 3rd time because she gets hell bent and calls 911.
Fuck I am so pissed.

Thanks for the ideas guys, Helped a lot.

I'd actually check out Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mid size college town with great vibes and counter culture atmosphere. Lots of parks and green spaces to explore. Like 3 new grow shops that just opened as well, as 3 excellent headshops. Come check us out, you'll love it!

I hate to say it, but most of Michigan is a mess right now, but if I had to name a decent city to live in up there it would have to be Grand Rapids. It is at least 10x cleaner than Detroit(I am talking about garbage in the streets and less bums too), and it is relatively "safe" as far as crime rates go(once agian, if you compare anywhere with Detroit, it will look good).

It's mostly all beautiful in the country and by the lakes, but I hope you don't plan on finding a job, seriously. After the auto industry went even most service industry jobs are filling up.
