Whats happened to the strains?

Back in the early 2000's when I started to grow,I used 400 watters and was just learning.I grew strains like BG Cindy AK-47 and blockhead to name a very few.Now I flower with 1K hortilux at 1500PPM with controlled co2 and the strains I've grown recently havent been up to par compared to several years ago.AK 47 is a perfect example. When I grew it several years ago with lousy equipment and limited knowledge,it was the bomb.I grew it recently and was not impressed at all.Same goes for dutch passion flo good years ago, shitty today.I can name several more but you get the idea.Does anyone else see a difference in strains they may have grown years ago compared to today's?

I used to think the same thing. Man, were has all the bomb gone?

But you know what it is (at least what I've come to realize) my tolerance for smoking weed was much lower 10 years ago than it is today.

I can see online today alot of different weed with 15% - 21% THC and that is ridiculous. With all the cross breeds, there are alot of strains that are much more potent. But in all, I think it's just in our heads.

We were younger.......

Part of it is tolerance. I just get stoned now... and don't hair split the highs. It's all about flavor for me now. I've gotten tasty seeds from Spice Of Life. Then there is a good dutch breeder whose name is banned from this site. He doesn't need this site to sell seeds, but his gear is tasty, affordable and yields well.

For me , it's been SOL, DJ Shorts older gear, and clone only strains.
The real Chemdog D ( not the overpriced knock offs) will yield real well and put hair on your chest.

Nothing beats a good old Northern Lights though.

One more... Tom Hill says that if you grow 100 seeds, only 3 or 4 will be standouts. I've been making f2's with an open pollination and growing out batches looking for that stand out. Getting a keeper from a pack of ten is a matter of luck. I've gotten lucky and unlucky. Getting ready to pop 20 in a few weeks.

Try quitting smoking for a couple of months and try the AK 47 again. It might be a different experience.

Thanks KG I didnt know you could search your own posts.Back on the subject I'm about to try some sag yumbolt,it sure was good about 5 years ago.Anyone grow her out lately? If I remember right she's kinda branchy with smaller buds,I'm really looking for something with nice cola's.If you ever find that special pheno dont lose her like I did after 4 years,I thought what the hell I'll try something new.3 seedgrows later I still dont have anything I felt was work keeping around for awhile.Folks that can just buy cuts don't know how good they have it

Yeah Yumbolt is the lick,, wish we still had our clone :joint:

Dunno,, clone-growers are stuck with what's on offer normally! and we wouldn't swap half the seeds we have for ANY of these clones!

Peace peace peace

Cannabis has been poorly bred for a long time now. Selecting for THC/trichome production has skewed the cannabinoid profiles of commercial strains so they are hardly the same plants as land races. Until some of the rest of the characteristics are bred back into the cannabinoid profile of commercial strains they will continue to get more 'ethereal" and less full bodied.
Not to mention the healthy, medicinal components are being displaced by THC selection.
The loss of appreciable cannabidiol/ cannabinol levels have drasitcly changed the effects and potency of todays cannbais

I don't pretend to know anything about breeding... but I have always wondered how the seed companies with these huge catalogs, keep that shit straight all those seeds and plants. It seems that if they just concentrated on a few strains they would be better off. But yeah, it is a crap shoot trying to find an old favorite from new seeds for some reason.

Like Serious Seeds, they dont have that manny strains but each one is special. But i guess some are big enough to manage, like Sensi. But they arent what they used to be so i heard.

And meh, there is just less atention going to the good strains. Most people are buying overhyped crosses, wich most of the time cost a bunch. Less work & more money for the "breeders".
