600's vs 1000's

So... What do you guys think about 4 600's vs 2 1000's? I have a 10x5 tent with 2 1k's now but was thinking about switching to 4 600's to help light disbursment. Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Hi DG,
You going to be growing in that whole area? 50 square foot canopy? Long rectangular areas can be difficult.

Even the 4 600w won't really fit in there perfectly.

I would consider keeping the 1000s and hang them on a linear light mover. There are some real advantages...but you might still need to add one more light. 60watt/square foot (a respectable coverage and intensity) would work out to be 3000w.

I say the multiple 600's. I just did the same thing. I think for watt/lumens as well as temperature. The 600's are more efficiant.

I really depends on your growing style. I will always use 1000's over 600's as long as you can cool them.

Sounds like heat could be an issue unless you have mac daddy intake/exhaust system, but I'd like to see some pic's when you make the switch.

Already having the two thousand watters, why not just supplement some lighting with some CFL's or some LED's?

Unless you can unload those lights or have the cash to just toss things around

i would always say 600s but it depends on the space , if your using all the 10 x 5 use like already said 2 x 1k lights on movers , but will still be giving off lots of heat , if the space is smaller ie if your plant space is 7 x 5 and your using the 3 feet as a work/tank etc.. area then i would go with the 600s

a 600 wont stretch to 5 ft without consequences. Fine put 2 width ways , but thats the same as about 6 600s over the canopy , you could do 4 600s on light movers. with ruffly the same effect as 2 1k's with less heat. up to you man as the cost of a light mover is the same as a cheap light set up.

Thanks for the input! Any ideas on how to put a mover in the tent? I do have the mac daddy in take and exhaust but I think with movers it might mess up my duct work. I was able to keep temps at 74 with the digital thermostat but the exhaust/ intake would come ion about 15 mins every hr wasting my co2. I use the ebb and gro buckets and was able to pluck 3.25 lbs of bubble jacks from 12 buckets. It really seemed like the corners were not as big of bugs though cause of the light dispursment. Anyone have duct work hooked to movers? It seems like the 4 600 might work but it's just more $$ I don't neet to spend

1000w bulbs are more readily available and sometimes cheaper. 600 hps is more of a "specialty bulb". if you use digi balasts, you could switch to 1000w MH for veg. 600w there is no MH, gotta use conversion, and they suck.

DG,
I've seen grow threads with guys using ducting on movers. The best use of a mover in your situation is to have the lights spread out and the mover only moving back-and-forth around 3 feet. So just have extra ducting suspended from the ceiling with bungees. Is there a frame inside to attach it too?

One thought I had was to connect my two lights on the mover and have a fan blowing through the lights but not necessarily out the tent. Then the regular exhaust fan will simply suck out the hot air since hot air rises. Eliminates some of the ducting.

I think trying to suspend the duct from the celing frame would work... maybe I'll spread out the 1k's and put a 600 in the middle unlined with the duct work... The tent would be over a hundred if I didn't vent it. Everything I have is hookedto a digital meter so if my exhaust was on all the time I would have to co2 in the room. I already burn 20lb tank a week cause the tents ar not sealed good

Hi, would'nt the penetration of 2x1000 watt lights be better than the penetration of 4x600 watt lights resulting in better yields as less popcorn buds. The idea of the 2 x 1000 watts with a 600 watt sounds nice though :) would it be an air cooled 600 watt so no extra heat?

If you can control the heat get the 1000w. Yes its true get better spread with the 600.. but 600 cannot touch the 1000w penitration.. you can only get the 600w so close without the plant touching the bulb (lol) ... but the 1000w goes deep yo
