habeeb, I bought a Denon just like that in '96 and used
it for CDs exclusively, it was great but I knew I should
have bought a Bose system. spring for a Bose bro.......

Bose makes a lot crap. They run slick advertising campaigns that have fooled many into buying there overpriced and at best, average equipment. The Denon you listed there is better then anything Bose puts out. That little Denon will outperform Bose systems that are twice the price. Check out the reviews the Denon gets on Amazon, and then read the reviews of the Bose systems.

I know nothing of Bose except what ppl say. Always heard they were good quality.

Had a Denon micro years ago (1996-ish) and was very happy with it. If past performance is any indication of current quality, I would recommend it. The price on the system you linked also seems reasonable for a micro.

Bose is at least double that for a bookshelf system.

My litmus test is to actually listen to the system before buying. If I am going to drop $600.00+ on a micro system, it needs to be demonstrated side by side.

The older I get the less music I listen to...But I am impressed with the sound system in my 2009 Ford pickup which was made by Sony. Always use the radio or CD player while driving. That's where I get my music fix.

I took an old Denon system that my partner was tossing out in the trash, replaced
the audio amp, hooked it into a pre-amp from my computer audio card and then from
the Denon into a couple of 36 inch cabinet floor model speakers with 15 in woofers.
Whoosh!!! Damn near blew my neighbors away from about a mile off. Talk about
sounds...clear as a bell and walking very tall over my bose all-in-one shelf system.
I live about square out in the middle of where sunshine has to get packed in on
mule trains, and I crank the sounds up to about half way...and on even a rainy day
you can hear for miles. Great lil amp, that Denon...imo.

The sound comes from the Speakers. Everything else is just there to process info. Get good speakers. I got a pair of Technics speakers from a former boss. They make my car stereo sound top of the line.

If it's for show, better get the prepackage instead of a scrounged system.

I have a Yamaha as my upstairs system, but down in the home theater, it's a BOSE.
The Wave Radio from them is an awesome countertop unit as well.

I can simply reiterate what has been said: I also have a great Denon system. Most reviewers I've studied look down on Bose as overpriced and overmarketed. In the end, the best thing is to research to find some likely candidates, then listen in person. What pleases you is far more important than what someone says in a review!

No highs no lows must be Bose. There's a reason they have to call it a bass module not a subwoofer..... because it never gets into sub frequency range as I understand it. The crossover of low tones that change from what you can hear to what you can feel. Like my Harmon Kardon with M&K subwoofer and PSB speakers. I have a range from 20-20,000 hrtz. The bass module barely dips below 60 which I think is the subbase threshold.

Just like an MP3 cut the highs and cut the lows and you have a middle frequency range that sounds clear because the speaker never has to manage high shrill sounds without symbalinc and low tones with out waffling.

Bose is way overpriced, they are the Apple of the stereo world - you're paying for the style, the components are nothing special.

Owned a few NADs amps, very good and reliable, but my preference is for Marantz, I have a PM-68SE Amp, CD-63SE CD Player, a Surround Processor I forget the model of now, all have served me extremely well over the last 10 years, still not heard a better CD player than my Marantz apart from the several grand one my brother in law has.

The best deals for top notch kit are often from the small British Audiophile companies like NAD, Cambridge Audio, Naim etc, Richer Sounds are a good place to look in the UK, dunno about the US and elsewhere.

One other thing to look at is some of the kit coming out of China, they have started copying old classics, you can buy copies of classic old valve amps and if you like non-electronic music, they are unbeatable, such a lovely warm sound. Check ebay for these.

I really like the look of these valve amps, they look amazingly cool especially in a dark room when the valves glow, and the prices on ebay are so cheap, if I had the cash I'd be looking at one of these:

These Monoblocks amps look wicked, and monoblocks are serious audiophile stuff!

This one is a seriously high end piece of kit and it's under 800 dollars, those huge valves with their big heater plates are gonna look amazing when they glow!

They do some amazing HDCD players too, this one looks truly stunning:

This is the amp to match that HDCD player, I think the pair of them together would look stunning, and very unusual compared to everyone else's stereo's!

Or...

One day:

Audio Research tube gear (Pre and Mono-block amps) with some nice Dynaudio loudspeakers.

Add quality turntable, moving coil, the works.

To test: Vinyl, vintage Japanese pressed Dark Side Of The Moon...

I used to order and assemble several Dynaudio kits (Finale, Twinn, Focus, Gemini..) from Denmark.

TOP shelf drivers!

Now they only sell finished units... but still... They are superlative transducers.

And that..! is the high point of my day...!

One day...

thanks for all the comments guys, the pics above look good, and small

I'm looking for small, as I don't like big bulky things in my rooms, I guess a minimalist?

I found these today, and might go with them as I think it's simple, smallish, and is high end???

now if someone could help with speakers? I'm looking for small size, I guess they call them bookshelf speakers? anyone know of the best ones for say 1k-1.2k ? I don't wanna go overboard as I'm not much into music, but I like quality things

thanks for all the help so far everyone

Perhaps:

I do have the Monitor 7 and they are absolutely superb.

My stereo is just 25 Watts per channel and they swing the room!

Your just wasting money if you spend anymore then the Denon. Its a case of diminishing returns when you spend more. Does it sound better? Marginally, and def not worth an extra $800. Go with the Denon you listed in your original post. Your not going to do much better with a system that costs twice as much. Also Onkyo is like Bose. Way overated.
