1000w ballast wiring help!

- I have a white and a red wire that are both seperatly merged with a wire from the ballast coil and a wire from the ignitor. (these 2 are for the light im assuming?)

- I have 4 colour coded wires labeled on the ballast as being for certain voltages? so I've capped off each of the ones Im not using individually, is that correct?



SO what im left with is the orange 120v wire and a white COM wire, which im assuming is nuetral??

So when I connect the plug wire, I just connect live to the orange 120v and neutral to the white COM wire? What do I do with the ground wire?


Anything Im getting wrong??

The ground wire attaches to the metal housing of the ballast box. There should be one from the box to the reflector as well.

Not enough of an electrician to guide you on the rest except to say HTG has the finest hook-up instructions I've ever seen. They're BIG PDFs so, be patient. If the above link doesn't get you to the 1000 watt HPS page that has the instructions links just go to the main HTG site and follow the ballast kit links.

I find it rather confusing to tell someone in words and be guaranteed it's understood right.

I figured it all out except for grounding, there is no mounting on either the ballast or the shade? should i just do it myself by attaching the ground to the sheetmetal on the ballast (the peices sandwiched together that hold the coils) and i guess on the shade it wont be hard


oh also the ballast isnt in a box

All you're looking for is a hole which may or may not be threaded. Below is my old 150 ballast, the box has a side that slips out. One cord goes to the wall plug, one to the lamp. Grounds from both are crimped together and bolted to the framework.



Below is where it attaches to the hood/socket/reflector. Look closely at shots on right and you can see the screw that holds the ground. When I removed the junction box, I bolted the ground directly to the hood after sanding off the baked enamel coating. Make sure you connect to metal, not paint.
