First CFL grow.

This will be my second attempt at growing some nice budz, the first was a failed outdoor attempt. Ive got a small cabinet that i am using for my box. I have 4-20w 6500k and 3-42w 2700k and 1-32w 2700k for a total of 238w (granted i did math correct ha). I have yet to get my exhaust fan hole cut out so the cabinet doors are open slightly with a pc fan in between for exhaust (see pics). Doors are open cuz temps are kinda high if they arent cracked, right now temp is 78.4*F. Ive planted some seeds on 12/9/09 and am using 24/0 light for the first weekish then switching to 12/12. I will surely be asking questions and look forward to good advice from you all. :smokeit:

Nice work WOCkid23. You may want to try and mount your lights so they run horizontally and not vertically. Other than that, get your exhaust hole cut and a little fan mounted and you're good to go! Welcome to ICMAG.

As it looks now...

ThisBuds4You: The exhaust hole is waiting till i can find the roto-zip to cut the hole..and is there any distinct advantage to mounting the lights horizontally versus vertically? And ive got a little 6" fan in the lower left corner..

if you put them horizontal instead there will be more vertical room for growth

Not only that but the bulb emits more light on the sides (more surface area for light on the sides of the bulb rather than the ends). I saw your little desk fan in there, that should work great to move air around and circulate air in the cab.

topic: how ever many fit in there and/or successfully sprout and are female...so at this point im not real sure..

are you going to top your plants or just tie them down /LST low stress training?

corkushy: Im kinda just gona take it all in stride and do whatever seems necessary at the time. I guess it depends on growth, but most likely i will just tie them back somehow..

plants generally grow to match the rooting area available, you're prob wanting to shoot for lots of straight thin plants with that rig. if you move to bigger pots lst would be great. basically choose because either you'll be topping/bending or trimming sides, you don't want to waffle back and forth

Hey WOCkid23

You will want to cut those intake/exhaust holes before u flip them to 12/12 so u can give them nice 12h of uninterrupted darkness. Else, you might get hermies.
Would you share the dimensions of the cab with us? :)
I don't know how much you smoke but you could get another smaller cab for cloning and run perpetual SOG in there - Dr. Bud style!

I'll be watching you grow.
Peace

That's a nice spacious cab to be working with.
I too would recommend a mom/clone chamber, even if it's outside the main cab in a PC case.
Also do hang those bulbs horizontal, more light and less height, though it makes passing air over them just only a little harder.
I'll pull up a chair and check in every once in a bit :joint:

dimensions of the box are, 2'6" Wide x 1'1" Deep x 2'7" Tall.

kcbudz31: I was planning on working with some straight up skinny plants like you said due to the planting "pots" i am using, kinda like some dr. bud action but not quite as legit hah

idontsmoke: The exhaust holes will be done by wednesday b/c thats when i plan on switching over to 12/12...still trying to get that damn roto-zip or something else to cut the holes :/

If you dont get roto-zip in time, you can use regular drill and drill bunch of holes to make circular cut.
Kinda like this

That's how i drilled some of the holes in my fridge and in PC modding days.
It's PITA tho :bashhead:
