I haven't had much to enter in this thread for a while - what's there to say, for the past few weeks it's been "rolled the jar for about 10 minutes today", & that's about it.

Here's what my tincture looks like, as of about 10 minutes ago:

-As you can see, the color of the tincture almost matches the color of the weed. I aimed a flashlight into the tincture, to allow a better view of the good stuff:

- it's a green/gold color, not as unpleasant as a few weeks back.

I am a former head of production for an ND's line of tinctures, glycerites and suppositories.
I need to tell you all that glycerites are very prone to mold. It was one of the biggest prblems we had with the product. IMO for a cannabis glycerite one should probably do the primary extraction using 95%EtOH and adding desired amount of glycerine then driving off the alcohol, leaving the cannabinoids suspended in the glycerine while sterilizing any spores that may be on the material
Here is my recipe for a honey suspension. it is scalable for potency, not unpleasent to use and much more stable than a glycerite, with a refigerated shelf life in brown glass of several yrs

Whiterasta's honey elixir;

A tincture is made from 190 proof ethanol using high resin content material by grinding into a flour and covering with 1/4" per pint of alcohol or 1 inch per gallon.macerate for a month and strain.

Reserve the alcohol .

Now THIS STAGE IS FLAMABLE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AND MUST ONLY BE PERFORMED OUTSIDE ON AN ELECTRIC HOTPLATE! In fact I have hesitated releasing this recipe for its ability to blow up if done by an inexperienced person over a gas stove! Please do this portion with open ventilation and NO open sources of ignition!

The reserved tincture is placed in a heavy large S/S kettle or a crock pot (works well due to enclosed heat source).
I can usually get back with vigorous pressing of the marc aproximately 1200ml+ from 1500 used
750ml pure honey is added and stirred to homogeneity. Amount of honey is variable from 1:1 to 10parts tincture:1part honey

Begin slowly bringing this to a boil while stirring aggressivly but without slopping out the mix.

NOTE at this point distillation is the most proper method of safely removing and recovering the alcohol,which if the alcohol is used several times becomes a cannabis brandy containing many interesting compounds amd flavors(mostly terpinoids and related aromatics) and can be used as a cordial once the proof has dropped below 150. The used alcohol is diluted with honey to ~60 proof

The mixture in the pot will start by swirling light and dark green as the resins are condensed and then begin to boil.

Turn it down to a simmer and watch carefully while stirring to prevent boilover.

Reduce this mixture down to 850mls and cool.
At this point you have a double strength syrup which is holding the cannabinoids in suspension. The key is leaving a small amount of alcohol in the syrup ,>10% , to keep the syrup from becoming to thick.If it is desired to remove all alcohol one must put the elixir in a wide mouth jar to be able to stirr it if it separates. This will keep it's effectiveness under refrigeration for many,many yrs.

Should one continue the boil until all alcohol is removed then it is possible to make lozenges of the honey by standard candy making techniques just watch your temps or you will vaporize some of the active ingredients.

This elixir, due to its extreme concentration will separate over time so must be shaken well prior to administering.
Using my strain, and at the concentration stated, dosage of elixir is 1/4tsp-2tblsp depending on ones tolerance to oral preps and severity of the symptoms it is used for.

Most people find it much quicker relief than oil extracts, this due to it piggy backing through the digestive sugar pathways rather than the fat pathway used by oils, and it can be made many multiples stonger than tincture or oils by changing the reduction ratio of honey/tincture.There are limits on the amount of resin which can be disolved in an oil or alcohol. These limits are superceded by creating a suspension. I personaly have created elixirs of 1g/ml concentrations, however these are more sweet tars than easily administered syrup.

Some of the uses of this product are;
Chronic pain
nausea
calming violent autistic behavior
influenza
viral infections
sleep disorders
Neuralgia
and the list goes on...

II hope this is of help to some of you, and again I caution you regarding the reduction of the alcoholic fraction.

WOW, whiterasta - there's a pile of information in your post, thanks for the information & recipe!

As they say, however, it's a day late, & a dime short on this project. I'll keep your post in-mind, should I try to do this again, and will definitely keep an eye-out for mold with this tincture. Using the alcohol to extract, then boiling it off - now that's a clever idea. I have a problem with trying to get hold of Everclear in my state - I guess it's something I need to purchase next time I go out of state.

OK - here's what I did tonight: It's been 60 days, so I decided to finalize my cannagliss. I put my (unshaken) mason jar in a water bath, and heated it to 160F for about 15 minutes, to make the glycerine as viscous as possible. I then scooped the top layer off (most of the leaf material), wrapped it 4 layers of extra-fine cheesecloth, and placed it between my 2 stainless steel pet bowls. I used a C-clamp to squeeze-out as much of the glycerine as I can, and let it then drip into one of those gold coffee filters.

After it stopped dripping from the pet bowls, I decided to filter the rest of the glycerine thru several layers of cheesecloth & the coffee filter also.

Here's what I ended-up with:

It definitely looks much better filtered, kind of like new motor oil. I then filled-up my amber bottles - these are 2-ounce Boston rounds with eyedroppers:

I put 4 drops under my tongue about 20 minutes ago, so far, nothing major is happening - I need to be patient - we'll see, I'll report.

Dont think 4 drops will do much, you need to take a dropper full. Glycerine tincture is not as potent as Ethanol tinctures, because you use alot more liquid. I am sure you will find the right dosage, but try more next time. Hope it works out for you.

Well, it's been a while! I felt I owed you-all a report on my tincture. Overall results were underwhelming. Slowandeasy & Medi-useA are right, I need to dose at least 2 full droppers of tincture to have any effect at-all. Frankly, I do much better with the volcano.

I did put some raspberry extract in one of my bottles, it makes it taste quite yummy - I'm toying with infusing some with orange extract, to make it go down better... it's certainly not a great-tasting concoction, for sure.

Overall - I grade myself a C-minus on this one!

I see 4 things I belive you migth be do better:

1. use twice as much high quality Trim and popcorn-buds, then you vill have only at thin layer of liquid in he buttom of the jar and then turn it upside down every time see the jar.

2. Decarboxylate the THC-A into Psykoactive THC by heating the open jar in at water bath, put the jar en the coold water while it heats up, and when the warter boils slowly you set the stop-watch to 30-40min. (exesheat kills the terpines (taste/smell)

Do NOT heat while the plant material i in the jar !!

3. light degrades THC to CBN (among others) and you dont whant that.

4.use only PURE VG, if its not ther i water in it this vill extract clorofyl from the material and premote mold.
