Anyone grow Brussel Sprouts? My plants are getting big and seem to be doing well, they just don't have any brussel sprouts on them. This is my first time growing them. Does anyone have any advice?

I had a bunch of success with them early in the spring but then it got too hot for them and they didn't make it. I know that they like a lot of water and apparently cooler weather. The leaves were nice and greenish purple and then turned orange and dry and died.

brussels sprouts need cool weather to form the heads. depending how south your southeast is, you probably can't grow them. lettuce would be a problem too.

Well the leaves are still greenish/purple. I have never grown them before. Do I cut all the top leaves off? Its pretty cool here, 50's mostly. The last couple of days its been in the 30's-40's.

brussels want to be sown early - march april and then planted out when estabished, 2 ft apart either way. important to have a firm soil so tread them in well and dont dig beforehand. cropping from november to feb/march depending on variety. cutting the tops off will encourage all the sprouts to mature at the same time if thats what you want. the tops can be cooked and eaten like cabbage. watch out for cabbage root fly (using collars around the stem will discourage this).

good luck
