Is DJ short seeds worth the money?

I

Iron_Lion

I dont normally like to spend that much on a pack of seeds, last time I splurged was on MNS SSH, but you usually get like 18+ seeds from MNS so its not so bad. DJs seeds are pretty expensive for a 10 pack, before I would drop that much $ on a 10 pk I would need to know theyre worth every penny. Are any of his strains enough to satisfy a connoisseur and a cash cropper?

Fuck and Yes! I'd do a little reading up on his strains to find out why they are so uniquely special compared to most commercial strains. In my eyes he breeds on a different level than any other commercial breeder. He breeds only true medicinal strains that are both healthy for the mind and body.

It really depends on what you want as far as a high, but Flo and Blueberry are his signature strains, which he has derived most of his other strains.

Im currently growing out the rest of my F13 pack, and was ecstatic about the results of my first keeper female. Even people that dont smoke at all find the aroma absolutely devine. Anyways goodluck with whatever strain you choose o/

Iron_Lion - It all depends on what you want. DJ's all about the quality of the high, everything else is gravy. If you keep that in mind when you find a couple mutants or a plant slow in veg you will be rewarded with some smoke that is usually the first jar to be empty.

I highly recommend the blue crosses if the price is too high. I have had Legend's Johnny Blaze (neville's haze x famous bb) and cplus (cali-o clone x famous bb) and the quality of the high is similar to DJ's gear when it comes to having a pleasant effect.

Exactly that 3dDream, the quality in Djs work is when smoking, taste and high is very great after a good cure, defenitly high quality weed.
While growing them the plant may lack in some points, but many of them are really beatiful and nice colours.

Absolutely! I have not found a strain of his that was not worth the money. My favorites are Old Time Moonshine, F-13, True Blueberry, & Flo. There is plenty of justification for him to have been admitted in the first round of entries into the breeders hall of fame. You will get keeper females in any pack of his seeds, but as was mentioned earlier do some reading on his strains to make sure you are getting what you personally want.

I grew out both the Blueberry and True Blueberry as well as the F-13 and found them all to be worth every penny....No herms but they sure do grow funky.
Then again I grabbed packs when they were around a c note.
I'm over the purple bud bag appeal stage in my growing so I have long since abandoned them...:joint:

Are you not cloning? You only need ONE good mum out of 10 seeds.... that's why you get 10. Then it's FREE except your flowering/vegging costs.

If you clone... nearly any seed pack is cheap, compared to the amount of meds you'll grow out of it over the years.

DJ truly does care about the finer points in the work he does. Currently still playing with 2 F-13 phenos, both of which are keepers. One sativa dominant, and one a little shorter and bushier. F-13 is however very finicky about its environment; that 60% sativa coming out l suppose. Amazing medicinal qualities, l am trying not to touch my outdoor till Christmas. Hard to do though... Also, Grape Krush, an F-1 hybrid, is a wonder variety. Excellent yields, vigorous growth, loads of resin and a fast finisher indoors, about twice as fast as is it did for me outdoors. DJ did a great thing in creating Grape Krush, my current favorite. It's creeper medicine too, feels more 'kushy' at first and turns into a very up 'hazy' feeling. This season in another mmj grow, using the same phenotype in a climate controlled green house, it produced the BIGGEST colas l have EVER seen. It seems indoors it flowers too quickly to get giant, but the yields were still above what was expected. Happy Growing! Remember, to give is to receive! Thanks to DJ Short!

my only concern would be the rather convaluted instructions that DJ gives for germination. imo decent seeds should pop when planted in the soil with perhaps a little soaking first.
you shouldnt need to wrap them in wet paper for days and pre-germinate them.

Never had a problem germinating DJ's seeds. I soak them for approximately 12 hours in a shotglass full of water with a little bit of cloning gel disolved in it. Place the seeds between moist papertowels on a plate vertically in a warm spot & the taproot generally pops in 12-24 hours, sometimes 1 will take a little longer. I have a 90%-100% success rate. Just make sure the papertowels don't dry out.

glad you havent had a problem, but i dont believe in germinating seeds before they are in the soil - too much chance of transplant shock and imo very bad horticultural practice. i have never had a problem using normal methods with cannabis seeds. i was surprised DJ thought this extra step was necessary to germ his seeds.

I've always had the best results germing in paper towel, now transplant shock and 100% sprouting. On my last run I put 21 seeds in paper towel and had 100% success even with seeds that had been in my fridge for over 2 years. the biggest failure I've ever had was when I tried to germ directly in soil, I use a very airy mix and the top layer had a tendency to dry up too quick and kill the seeds. What I like about paper towel method is I get to know whats going on with each seed before I waste the time to plant it. A little scuff to the outside of the seeds with emory cloth and your in business.

i totally agree, i too think it is bad horticultural practice, but many people online are not really horticultural people are they

you can learn how to grow ganja in a box indoors, but what you learn doing it doesnt really apply to other plants.

but if someone gets a technique down that works for them, like the paper towel technique, then i say stick with it! always stick with what is working for you

imo, like all crosses you have to search through the genetics in a pack or two to find the best individual, but even this one individual in dj's gear may not be a massive yielder, but having said that, i recently got 2 girls out of 4 of dj's blueberry started, and one of them(pictured below) gave me 2 oz in the end, which is pretty good for dj's blues.

in general though, i too would say cash croppers look elsewhere. white russian imo is the best all round commercial strain, not that that has any relevance.

yeah, i guess i'm coming at growing weed from a different angle to most in that i'm a pretty experienced gardener, and cannabis seeds are quick and easy in the general scheme of things. what's most important is that everyone has a method that they get on with and that works for them :)
