Its hard to say since I'm on my first vert grow, but the buds look amazing. The top buds aren't as big, but there are way more medium sized buds on the sides and the buds grow all the way from the bottom to the top. It's awesome.
Would heat be more of an issue with the vert setting bare bulb no tube? This would be great for my first med grow. It would save me some money initially from getting a hood (every penny counts) if I could just hang a bare bulb around my 6 plants I'm allowed.
Another question, you do vert and the plants grow on the bulb side only but what if the plants were slowly rotating on their axis giving all sides of the plant light vertically?
Like 6 buckets on lazy susans that have a pully/belt config and a small elec motor runs it. LOL sounds Rube goldbergian lol
When I grew in the back yard, the north side of the plant grew in either shadow or moonlight. We never threw the north side out. Mylar or flat white paint on the walls to bounce back what light passes the plant should do you fine.
Without glazed ventilation around the bulbs, you'll need some decent pc fans to shift the bulb heat. I've only ever tried with chuncky CFL's, but it has so far rewarded me with the highest g's to watt's. Lots of training, but lots of buds!
My last attempt at this style of growing:
I usually grow flat though, under 600's:
Either way, you already seem rather capable of growing some damn tasty looking buds! (I bet you could get some dank growing upside down in the dark; if your photo album is anything to go by!!!!)
Vertical is by far the most efficient usage of the light from a round bulb. 360 degrees versus 180 degrees of output. Sure alot of light reflects from above the bulb in a reflector but it's just not the same and reflected light loses intensity & photons. With vertical lighting in the plant canopy you have very deep penetration and can most likely double yields compared to horizontal lighting. Plants spaced equally all around the bulbs is the way to go if you are going for strictly overall yield. Big plants are preferable to take advantage of extensive branching and long light drenched colas as opposed to small short plants that can not benefit nearly as much from vertical bulbs unless you have a very high plant count to make up for the lack of plant size. 600 watt Hortilux HPS would be the ideal bulb to use.
yep Id def use tubes. thanks yall for the help, I been researchin and think it will be the way to go in the future, just gotta wait a lil minute, give me time to step my veg game up to make use of the verticle room... Peace!
