Building my first vertical room. Some questions

Hello!

I will try vertical for my first time.
Also in the same i want to try handwattering coco since i see alot of you dudes get really spectacular results doing that!

My new room (old room where i had my tent, now i will use all of that space) are 6.2x9 (~190x270cm) and i allready have some lightings from my horizontal grow, like 4 600w kits.

I was thinking about building shelves but dont really now at what height etc. Also how much light should i need for this room? At what height should i hang my lights?

How many plants you think i should run? And how big pots?
I allready have a mother plant to take clones from. I took 70 yesterday but im not sure all will root and i need 20 for other project.

I can start build the room tomorrow but not start use it before in 5 weeks. So i have some time to veg plants etc.

Please come with ideas!
:thanks:

I'm trying to decide on lighting for my area as well...but i'll just stick around and do some reading.

My only vertical experience is with stadium grows so if that's what u mean by shelves then i'll try and help out as best I can.

I ran 5 shelves (per side) with 4 600w hps in a 7'X7'X10' room. I started my top shelves @ 18" (I think) down from the ceiling and then dropped each 2"X6" down 10". The front of the top shelves were mounted flush with the backside of the lower shelves, which put the bottom most shelves @ about 54" off the floor.

The bulbs were about 12" or 15" off the walls and the spaced evenly apart from each other. I started the bulbs even with the middle shelves and then raised them slightly after 30 days for the remainder of the grow.

I used Farfard Growing Mix #2 in white 1gal grow bags (which I think are taller then the black ones) and fed with Jack's Classic 10-30-20. The first run was 90 Yumbolt X Cafe' Girl (f) x White Widow (m) @ 9 per shelf (although 13 or 14 will fit snuggly.) The yield was around 4 pounds but this strain wasn't really built for this type of set up as it stretches too much and isn't a huge yeilder. The next run was with Yumbolt X Cafe Girl F2's (for my head) and Hash Plant (from sensi seed.) Had the room been filled with only HP the yield would have been 6 or more but I don't like the taste or high of this particular HP so I always ran something along side it that has some taste.

When I find a safe place to set up again i'll be testing out some of the crosses i've made over the years; YumCafe F3, White Widow X YumCafe, YumCafe X HP, Chronic X YumCafe, Nice Guy X HP and YumCafe/WW X YumCafe (f) X HP (m).

If you have any questions about the stadium set up please feel free to ask. And since this is the first post i've made since probably the old CW days....thank you very much to Mr. Soul (if you're out there lurkin, I can't thank you enough for Cafe Girl), Lucas (bubblin' in a 50gal horse trough paid for my education;) and Northern Farmer and Krusty for making vertical bare bulbs the only way i'll ever grow again:)

Well, the dimensions of my room are a bit larger than that. i have a 9Wx10Lx10H and i'm not really sure how many 600's i'd need for this space, as i think that the way to calculate is a bit different with vert setups rather than horizontal. But i'm still trying to get it all figured out.

I think 9' wide is about 2' too much...especially with 6's. If u could shrink the width down to 6.5 or 7' you'll be fine. I think u can get away with five 6's but six would probably be better. If u haven't seen this thread yet then definitely give it a read...everything u need to know about stadium growing can be found in it...http://icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=57927&highlight=stadium

Just curious...does anyone know how many posts you have make before u can PM someone?

appreciate it bro...but i don't really see anyway to make the room smaller, as i'd be building the shelves on the actual walls of the room. So the only smaller i can see it being is maybe by about 1ft all the way around. Right now i'm practically running 2 4x4 tents (DIY) and i'm thinking that i may just convert each of these to vert and just go from there. I really would like to use the entire room that the 2 tents are housed in, but i think that'd call for a lot more equipment buying.

I'll give that stadium thread a read and see what the deal is with this, but just out of curiosity...is there any real difference in running a stadium...and running straight up vert with bulbs stacked and with shelves, but no stadium shelves?

I want to run Coco, but am thinking of running it through vertical drainpipes or HD plastic layflat hose, effectively very tall pots, getting around the problems with plumbing in several gutters and sealing them up enough so humidity does not get too much.

I've never tried stacked bulbs with shelves so i'm not sure how they compare to a normal stadium. I am interested in trying the aero octogon that someone on here came up with that uses stacked bulbs....the thing I like about stacked is they can be air-cooled which isn't easily done in a stadium.

How many watts were plannin on running Solarz? U can always try trees in 5 or 7gal pots with soil, that way u can use up all the available space. It would b tight but u could try 4 plants veg'd till they reach ur chest (similar to KFB) the room would have 4 6's, one a foot or so off each wall and a 1000w MH in the middle. Lots of popcorn buds from the bottom of the plant with this method though.

The nice thing about stadium growin is their's very little veg time, it's 7-10 days to root, 10 days of veg and then flowered at 6-8". I ended up doing 45 each month as harvesting 90 plants was a royal PITA!!!

Im starting my first vertical grow today in a 4x8 tent. (see other tread) If this will look to work out i build a bigger room later :)

Keep it green!
