Rule 14, Sub-Paragraph 420: "No write-in votes allowed."

I'm sorry Pumpkin, it's another disqualification. ;)

What's wrong with getting a less than honorable. Most my Bros have them. You in the service?

I did three years out of a six year hitch. I got an honorable discharge because I am crazy and they don't like crazy people having their finger on the launch button for the weapons (my job).

The Navy was bitchy about it and I was a big time troublemaker.

To this day I regret that I was such an asshole (not like the one I am now) and when it was my turn to make my contribution to our country's security, I only put one thin dime out on the collection plate. I let my country down, I let my Navy down, I let my shipmates down and I let myself down. I am sorry but it is a bit too late for "I'm sorry's" as my service was more than 25 years ago.

My vote is for Ed Rosenthal. He has to be one of the foremost experts on cannabis in the world. Just "Ask Ed". :)
Another contender would have to be Jack Herer. He has done so much for the cannabis cause, in his lifetime.

My bad, its always the sub paragraph that gets me. Good thing I can't remember the name of the Blond I used to date 30 years ago, best head ever but thats another story. Now she was a sub-paragraph all her own, anywayz.........

Wow, Jerry Garcia seems to be a hands-on favorite so far...

I don't know why I didn't think of Ed Rosenthal, Kyle Kushman, Jose Cerventes or Gypsy. I should be shot for running shitty polls...

All the same, it's all in good fun...

Jesus Christ. How many old stoners can I miss with one poll? It's not that I was malicious; I did mean well...

Obviously I have to go work for the government...

Oh God. HK, that was hysterical. Is George a formal nomination? If so, we have to go back to sub-paragraph 420: "write-in candidates are automatically disqualified."

I'm sorry, HK. I really am, but I don't make the poll rules. If you would like to review them I have them consolidated into a 14-volume gift set that Vince (the Scam-Now dude) is offering for three easy payments of $29.95 (before shamwow he sold Britannica - little known factoid that pop culture conveniently overlooked).

Still holding out for whirled peas.

i couldn't resist.

Used to love Hunter, then I read the "Unauthorized Bio" and not any more. If I recall correctly he also beat his wife and pulled some other uncool stunts. Didn't he kill himself? Been a while since I read the Bio, yeah, just checked, definitely dead. Self inflicted gunshot wound. Poor Bastard. Real heads don't commit suicide. We are generally a pretty happy group most of the time. IMO

I'll write in Ken Kesey.

I agree on Ken Kesey but what's wrong with Thompson? I am a big admirer of his, have read almost everything he wrote and some bios, but not the one you mentioned. I don't recall him beating up his wife. Can you please tell me what do you mean by other uncool stunt?

In the end he committed suicide and I am the first one who would like to know why, but so what? I like him for some great pieces of literature about a period I can try to live out only through books and movies and music since I wasn't there. Also I think my life would be different without Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I still remember seeing it with an old gf who thought it was a little weird that I liked it so much.

Another problem that comes up when you go through Hunter's life is that his late writing wasn't nearly as good as the first books he wrote, see Hell's Angels - Fear and Loathing in L.V. - Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail'72. He was somehow trapped into the persona he created: Raoul Duke, people was always expecting him acting like Duke.

I like to remember him with this sentence from the movie Fear and Loathing: "One of God's own prototypes, a high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass-production. Too weird to live and too rare to die."
