Cold Temps Day and Night

Hey guys, just a quick question. I am on day 8 of 12/12 and my day temps are 65 f and my night temps are 60 f. What should I expect with cold temps like these. Growth seems to be pretty fast and plants look very healthy. Will this effect yeild, potency, anything? All answers are appreciated. Thank you.

you should get some nice purple color if the genes carry it

So you guys think that 65 f day and 60 f night is not too cold? That is great. I really dont want to put a heater in the room. I feel like that could be a bad idea. Anyone else have an idea if this is too cold?

if your looking for OPTIMUM temps the you want aroud 78 day and 68 nite. but if you dont feel l ike getting a heater 60 is ok think about pot that grows outdoors, it definately gets down to 60 at nite in almost all regions...

IME anything colder is fatal without keeping the roots warm. i have 8 plants that i f'ed up and didnt insulate the pots from the concrete floor and im paying for it now dearly. i can only guess that the top warm half grew faster than the cold root ball and caused a lockout of well, everything. now they look like sticks with a shitload of dead and dying leaves on them, and this is after fixing the floor issue. it only took a couple nights to oops. im almost 7 weeks into flower and things are looking close but i cant help but wonder what it would have done if i insulated. i'll let you know next time.
basically what in getting at is, some cold on the upper plant is ok, cold on the roots is not.

Ok well i dont want that to happen Rysam. What do i do to insulate my pots from the cold concrete floor. How did you fix your problem? Are your plants ok now? Are they yeilding anything?

Some plywood and a few bricks would work. Just get it off of the bare floor.

As for heating a room, I would buy another HPS before I would use a space heater. That seems like a waste of electricity, for the 1000w it takes to run a space heater, I could grow another pound or so.

Im running 74 degrees daytime and 62 degrees night time. Turns white widow a beautiful purple color. Dont drop into the 50s though, thats getting a little iffy.

Never heated the room and have ran the same cuts over several years , you should be fine at those temps and not lose very much if any.

Much more important to keep the rootzone above 55 f than the plant above ground , common cuts have stood air temps down to freezeing and recovered fine.

Fans yellow fast and drop early which is quite alarming the first time you see it , helps with moulds so dont panic.
Cuts take 75 days instead of a summer 60 and yield is down a third , bud often looks stunning and the flavours are stronger , many normally green plants will colour due to nutrient management problems at low temps and genetic blues can go almost black.

Rootball autopsies show much less use of available space and i drop a potsize over winter and squeeze a few more in and get the same overall yield more or less.

Irrigate with warm water , insulate around the pots or box them in and consider heating cables or a low wattage tubular heater to raise temps.

Useing exhaust heat from a seperate vegging box has worked for me and others , works very well to split a larger floweroom in two halfs seperately lit and use exhaust from one to heat the dark room then flip.

Could have veg box on 20/4 underneath the flower area and use riseing heat if space would allow or extract in from one nearby.

This is the only advantage hydro would have for me , easy to heat a water tank.

Powdery mildew has been the worst recurring problem at low temps , must keep air moveing and struggle to keep humidity below 30% and it thrives above 50% but will see no more spidermites till spring at least.

My personal solution was to fit a woodburner into an old covered up flue , ventilation and heating problems all solved and hot water for the whole house , with free firewood and a bit of effort and a lot of contempt for current building regulations.

If you can bring them up just a little bit youll get faster growth, . Even if you dont bring the temps up at all, you have to realize 60 is your bare minimum temp. under that is pushin it and you wont like the results. even just 5 degrees on the night time temp would be beneficial.

Are you placing your thermometer at the canopy? How far is your light from the canopy? May think about dropping it. I dont see how your temp only drops 5 degrees when the lights are off unless your bulb(s) are 3 feet away.

Im running Purple Diesle and GDP right now.... I am having trouble with WPM so I lowered my closet temps to 63 at night and 68 with ligts on. Within 2 days my purp strains turned DARK purple and are finishing nice, dark and danky!!! It wont hurt your plants but may slow certain strains dow a little.

Well now that you mention it, my thermomter is on the ground in the grow room...should i measure the temps from where the top buds are?

ok guys now i have a new question... I measured the temps from the bud that is closest to the light. On this bud the day temp is 78 and the night temp is 62. It is now day 17 of flower. Now I am a bit concerned that this is too big of a temp swing. Seems like a pretty drastic change. Am I being paranoid?

Yeah a bit paranoid....... late in flowering outdoors temps dip lower than that. Its a bit low, may slow flowering a LITTLE bit, but I wouldnt worry about it. Just dont get into the 50's. Do you have multiple fans blowing during the "night"? If so turn 1 or 2 off so it warms up 1-2 degress.

Good luck.

hey,

With the colder months approaching and the additional heating, condensation will be an enemy. Watch out for high humidity.

GL...can't wait to see the leaves change different hues, always nice to see reds, blues, purples etc.
