Pulling weight using MH not HPS ? Why

Alot of grows where guys are pulling serious weights i see them using MH?

Am i missing something?

I remember a long time ago reading about MH creating denser buds.

Anyone know why some people prefer MH in flower Rather that the traditional HPS ?

I've heard of people switching the last week/two weeks of flowering for much bigger buddage, but I've also been under the impression that HPS were the way to go through flowering.

Its my understanding that the redness will get the plants to want to flower/grow buds and stuff like that, but the blue in the MH will help towards density/taste/potency..

I use to use just HPS in flower. THen I started mixing with MH at about 30-40% and saw a nice increase in density and flavor. My room also cooled down about 1 degree (F) all over due to the cooler lamps.

Now I'm growing in a closet and using just a 250watt MH.. Havn't flowered yet but we'll see what happens. I'll supplement with some CFLs in a more red spectrum.

I think a good balance is the best.

I personally use mh for veg then I use hps for the first 7-9 weeks and mh for the last 3 weeks. I get denser and seemingly frostier buds this way.

In my flower room I have 1x1000w HPS and 2x1000w MH.Dont really notice any differance on the buds by the HPS over the MH.

MH during veg allows them to not stretch as much. It's also good to use MH during the first week or so of flowering to minimize stretch, then switch to HPS.

I have been watching results for several years now, and have tried a bunch of configurations, and I am still learning about this. The one thing I can say for sure is that some strains prefer one or the other, and some are happier mixed. Here most strains yield a little better in all yellow, but wwidow loves MH and mixed. I also want to try vegging with hps to see what that does to the end crop, but have not tried that yet.

It's all good.
