Duct fitting

I've bought a few different duct fitting and had to return them because they wouldnt fit on the end of my 6" ac hood. Is there a way to cut these to make them easier to work with?

metal snips....yellow handle is straight cut

is the problem your having is its the same size?
if so the easiest way is to just notch your duct, fit it on and tape it up.

hope this helps

Hmm, cool I will try that. And some fittings I've got from the store either arent perfectly round or the same size as the port on the hood. Its a real bitch the have to buy a fitting, try it then bring it back, I just wasnt sure cutting was going to work and didnt want to waste my $$.

no duct is going to be perfectly round, thats why its sheet metal & its bendable.......also why they make duct mastic & alum tape

There are male and female fittings for duct work.

BAM.

Make sure you're using the right kind of fitting. Also be aware that some air hoods aren't going to be "quite" the correct size and may require some innovative adaptation (bash it till it fits).

I cut a V shape into the 6" elbow and was able to get it to fit into the port on the hood. Sealed it up with aluminum tape. The other 6" pieces that wouldnt fit together I just duct taped, worked well.

Yea the metal stuff is pretty flimsy, soem needle nose pliers and metal snippers will pretty much get you buy in any situation. And duct tape... lots of duct tape.
