ISO hash - isocol?

I asked this question in an already going thread in the Aus/NZ section, but I want answers sooner as i'm sure this section gets more views. Anyway, my half ounce went moldy and I panicked, so I did a double iso wash with isocol (iso alcohol - 64%, little green bottle with the crocodile). The result I am very happy with, nice potent oil.

HOWEVER, Isocol is perfumed, the bottle only says it contains iso alcohol, the rest I assume is water and the amount of ingredients used to fragrance it would be minimal, but I am still concerned. The oil tastes soapy almost when smoked through a pipe. Is it okay to smoke this oil? Would using a bong reduce the amount of possible shit im breathing in? I really, really don't want to throw it out. Maybe I could do another wash with cleaner iso, would that help?

Any advice on whether I should or shouldn't smoke it would be helpful. Here is their website for those not familiar with the brand: www.isocol.com.au/

No but seriously, I don't want to waste it...I'm short on cash and it would be such a waste...surely a little perfumed iso couldn't do me that much harm especially if smoked through a bong??? I mean this stuff your supposed to rub all over your skin and on food surfaces and cuts...

truth is.....im sure you wont die...but its definitely not good to be smoking it....you could try washing it with unscented iso if you want...i doubt it would remove the smell or taste...but you know all this already...it really comes down to whats more important inhaling carcinogens or losing a bit of cash....

Ok, you've convinced me. As hard as it is to chuck it, I think I will.

Funny story, when I was drying it there was a big flying bug in the room. In the morning I found it had landed in the dish sometime when it was drying, the thing could hardly move. It was either drunk or really stoned, or both. Haha

It's usually a good idea to respect the specific parameters given when producing a substance. Have learned from experience but when doing these extractions its imperative to use a food grade reagent or equivalent. Can save ya some time and $$...

Try to rewash again but this time with a pure solvent. Considering the iso was only 64% i'm sure you are wondering where the rest of your yield went... It's like cleaning coke with a bottle of nail polish.. you can do it, it's just not efficient.

Ok, some more thought, assuming the fragrance would be water soluble, I could leave the oil sitting in some water for a while to remove anything on the surface, then, I think there is a purifying method you can use to remove the chlorophyll and tars. Could using this method remove any nasties in the oil? If anyone has the how-to on this please leave a link.

P.S. and no, there is no way I'd be touching moldy buds, though this topic might seem a little hypocritical >_<

EDIT: Ok, I am presently doing a warm water wash, letting it sit for a bit (15-30 mins) - some advice I found in another thread. It has already changed colour from very dark tarry green to a much lighter, almost caramel green colour. The fragrance is also being taken up by the water, so maybe with a few washes I might have significantly more pure iso hash Unfortunetly there still only a very small amount, I'm not a heavy smoker anyway, so a small amount is enough for me. Thanks for your input guys.

You might try dissolving it in iso, adding water and Hexane, shaking well, and allow it to separate into layers in a sepratory funnel, or a zip lock bag held by one corner. Bleed off the water and alcohol, flash off the Hexane, and try it again.

If that doesn't work, you might adding activated charcoal when it is dissolved in the iso and filtering it, before adding the water and Hexane.

Thanks GW! I just did 3 warm water washes and still no luck...I will give your suggestions a go a get back to you.

Oh, and how would I go about obtaining hexane? Where to look? Brand name? Over the counter?

I would definitely try the separation noted above. However I feel if you cannot obtain ISO, hexane may be out of reach. Try Janitorial Supply places. Dont forget an evaporation test, and you should read an msds before using ANY solvent. You can email Isocol website for their msds. Identification of the impurity may help.

Eh, the annoying thing is I have sent the Isocol company 2 e-mails asking of any additives or ingredients of the perfume. They haven't replied and it's been a week.

Okay, well, I can easily get some 99.7% pure iso from dick smith (why didn't I just do this to begin with?), then hopefully I will be able to get some hexane from somewhere too. I wouldn't have a clue where any janitorial supply stores would be, and im not a janitor, so they may be curious as to what I want it for...

I think I read somewhere about adding salt to the iso mix, something about a cleaner product, can anyone elaborate?

EDIT: I realise I am playing around with my health here, but I tried some in the vapo, the soapy taste was still there, which isn't good, but it is only there for the first couple of hits. I had a tiny bit and I am nice toasted though
