White Rhino flowering time

Hey all, I'm growing white rhino right now, got the seeds from mjseedsnl.com and am on the 3rd generation of clones from seed. Next weds. will be 8 weeks flowering, but the plants don't seem like they will be ready by then. I have been flushing with plain water since last weds. and was wondering if it is ok to flush for more than 2 weeks? Does white rhino take longer than 8 weeks? Thanks.

Hey Amstel, I ended up flowering for 65 days, so a little over 9 weeks. I think I had a really sativa pheno, cause the plants were lanky, and took longer to flower. I always thought that WR was mostly indica, but I guess not so much.

+1 to the 9 weeks, at least. I had the same thoughts, Indica-dom would help it finish sooner. Nirvana's site even advertises that it produces denser, somewhat shorter plants. Shorter than what? A thai? I germed 4, got 3 females and all 3 were tall, somewhat lanky, sativa-dom plants.

And honestly, the two I just cut down could've done an extra few days for a bit more amber at the chop. It ended up around 80/20 cloudy to amber and with a fruity, fruity taste. Another odd development given its often "hashy" taste descriptions.

I also noticed two distinct phenotypes when I grew out my 30 beans. One was a very lanky one that was troublesome to clone, and the other was a tight compact Indica dominant that doesn't like to trimmed too aggressively prior to flipping.

FWIW, try pinching the tops about a week before putting them into 12/12. I found that my WR loved it.

huhh? ok now it's getting kinda wierd ....mine only stretched a little bit after flowering (7-10 inches) ...thank god cause they are 6 inches from my cool tube...

but they did take forever to clone...
and are only really starting to take off in the veg cycle(over 30 daysand only 6-7 inches tall).....another thing is one of three females is showing heavy crystalization and the other 2 or kinda behind? maybe a WR expert will pop in?

Thanks Amstel, good to hear yours didn't stretch much after the switch to 12/12. I'm hoping mine reacts similarly, I can't afford a big stretch either. What wattage is your light? I'm using 1K so I hope that helps keep the stretch down to a minimum.

As far as trich development, had two get super frosty even tho one had a serious leaf spotting issue that I think robbed it of some yield. Even still, it only finished 8 grams under the other rhino that was fine the whole time. So maybe it wasn't too bad of a problem but even with the spotting it had some serious frost going on.

I count 9 weeks after the first sign of sex, I usually veg for 1month, 7-10 days of 12/12 shows sex, and the count down begins from the first female pistil that shows. I got mine from GHS, and all are super frosty even after 10 days after showing sex, as you can see in the following pic. I thoroughly believe GHS genetics to be more stable than nirvana's version. Even the more sativa pheno I got did not make it to 36 inches during the stretch. Here is a shot of my more sativa WR. Good luck with your grow.

Thanks amstel, I'm cooling the hood with a 6" inline so I'm hoping that'll help a lot. I've super cropped the hell out of the rhino, took it down from two 22" vertical shoots (it was topped) into a flat, 3' across crown thats now roughly 17" tall. Looks like a lazy man's LST. ;)

Good info, Treez. Why ya count from the first signs of pistols? I think most breeders list the finishing times based on the light switch as that's what gets the plants motors going into flowering mode. Not to mention, what if you vegged to maturity & pre flowers? That sativa pheno you finished at 36", what was the height when it went into flowering and did you manipulate it at all, by super cropping or tying it down?

When I put her to flower she was 8", she went from 8" to 27" in about 3 weeks. That was a serious stretch. But still well under 36". She was max at 27" not the 36" like I thought.

I think most breeders assume that you put your plant to flowering after they have already shown sex. My Rhino was exactly 30days when I put her to flower and she did not show sex as yet. She showed sex 7 days later, and the day the first pistils show, is day 0 as far as the count down for me when she will be ready.

If your plant is not showing sex when you put it to flower, then it is possible that you will most likely harvest too early especially if you don't have a microscope, and doing it purely on number of weeks. Any experienced grower will let you know that flowering time can only begin if the plant is flowering. And for me that is at the first sign of sex.

happy growing, hope they turn out great for ya..

yea and to add to that the breeders suggested "amount of days in flower" is just that, a suggestion of around when the plant will finish. If you really wanna check when the plant is done you need to be checking your trichomes w/ a strong (40x or better) magnifier or jewelers loupe..... there's plenty of threads in here on it...

anything but indica some of those rhinos are lanky. fuck that. doesnt fit the description cuz the plants are too poly poly to be consistant
