RDWC Growers...How do you veg?

M

Mr.Howie

I am trying to figure out the best way to veg out 25 or so plants in a seperate area from the flower room. Could just set up another DWC system but wondering what others have set up.

whassup MR!!?

"best way" ha ha ha!!! thats "bait" for killer debate!!

truth is you are goin to hafta find the best way for YOU!!

ya say you r doin Rdwc in your bloom area, as you must already know if your doin it right;
ie: water temps around 68-72 deg F. , air temps around 78-82, fresh CO2 (air exchange or gen/tank setup), good HID lighting/lumens/coverage/watts per sqaure foot etc...good nutes PH level, PPM not too high ( dwc typically uses weaker solution than the label sez)

if the basic conditions I have spelled out above are met and you don't get a fusarium or other fatal plant disease you should have experineced fuckin phenomenal growth performance. with that in mind a dwc "veg" would be ok on a mini-scale but you may have
problems managing your growth , as if you can "dial in" the veg setup too you would have
awsome growth.

I would suggest a net pot simalar in size to your dwc bloom pots with the same medium like hydroton pellets (my fave!) and install a drip system that recircutes the drain water.

if you are propogating use the "easy cloner" or construct a "bubbler" cloner to prep for veg. stage
if you r goin seeds use some starter plugs or small rockwool cube to get them ready for veg.

i hope this helps ya some and not get ya confused!!

peace!!

Hey MR. whats up. I too am a RDWC enthusiast. I used it for veg a bit but have switched to ebb and flow table for veg and mothers under a 400w super blue MH. Works great and provides stellar access to trim roots and inspect plants. I have thought about building one of Pirate's aeroponic battleships for veg but until you can have uninteruptable power supplies for all your pumps the danger of crop loss keeps this idea at bay. The only method that really is not cross compatible for DWC (aside from dirt) is vegging in rockwool and flowering in DWC but many people do it with great success anyway. So now you should be really confused and ready to do some more research!

I use beer cups for pots.Start seed in rockwool.Put in beer cup fill with clay balls.I have a small rez in a closet with a 400w.Top is drilled to hold cups.Pump and hose top water ,drains back to rez.Do this until they go in RDWC. They have good set of roots by now.I move 3 plants per week.3 in 3 out.Dont have to mess with net pots just toss the cups easy clean up.

Hey dude!,
I suppose you wanna veg in a similar/same way to how you gonna bloom them. What you gonna do in bloom, will dictate mostly what you do in veg. (keep it simple)
You could Bubble clone straight into net-pots, depends how long you want to veg for really, but if its a short veg ie- 1-2 wk should work like a treat. When they ready to be moved into the flower room/cab, you got no hassle then. Bubble Clone (Root&Veg) -to- Flower Cab (Bloom) Simple & a lot less hassle than trying to use a different method for Veg.

Thanks for the comments... I used to split the room and 50% was Veg and storage and 50% was bloom room. Now most of the room is bloom and there is a small space for veg. In the RDWC bloom room i have hydroton as the medium... have an aerocloner that works really well (10 days and ready to veg).

I would like to Veg in the 3inch net pots I use in bloom but not mess with all the airstones and buckets. Also don't want to veg in the cloner cause I have had problems with the roots getting all tangled together in the past and that always sucks.

I am thinking maybe have a small ebb flow table

What containers are you using for your RDWC? I have 5 gal buckets and my next run I am thinking about implementing a quick-connect system that will allow me to just move the bucket from veg room to flower room. That way I can pack the buckets closer together in veg and then space them out later in flower, and wont have to worry about transplanting after coming from the bubble cloner. Still, I wont be able to get them THAT close together in veg, it seems like it may be a little inefficient...

they bloom in 5gal....that's the whole thing though it needs to fit in a small space (2x4) so a bunch of buckets isn't going to work for good

If your doing dwc then your most likely using hydroton in your system. Set up a ebb n flow table and use 6 inch blocks.

How long do you veg? You could just use the areo cloner/ bubble cloner + nutes for a short time but after about two to three weeks of true veg you'll start seeing horribly tangled roots. In a 2X4 space 6" square pots in an ebb and flow system would fit 25 plants but transplanting would take some creativity. I haven't tried it but maybe you could line the square pots with a 6" net pots filled with hydroton?....just spitballin, good luck

Man, if you are doing deep water, it just seems like extra work on the veg side. I know that isn't what you want to hear, but us "experienced growers" (i.e.: old fuckers) don't like humpin' buckets any more than we have to hump them and bending over all the time gets real old on these old backs.

When I was growing RDWC, I always did bush-style grows from scratch. The second the seeds cracked, they went into 1" rock wool cubes and into the maul of the beast. Grown with vigor, I could get a six-month supply of premium medicine, give away bags to friends and still have some left on day 180. This meant the veg cycle was 42 days (from the date the seeds went into the cubes), but with 55 day bloom cycle, I was still getting done in under 100 days. I live in an upscale neighborhood that is patrolled by cops because we have so many dang growing guerrillas in the area (someone is getting popped at least every other month - last month a huge grow bit the dust). So, my thing was to get in, get out and get done.

My latest project is a grow box. I'm halving my total wattage and going with a completely stealthy cabinet design (see my thread in soil grows or in Old Farts) so I can do a perpetual garden and still sleep at night.

Now, if you are doing this as a production grow, you can chalk my advice up to old people bullshit, but if it is just feeding your head, then feed your head and squeeze every last bit of production out with a single run.

That's my $.02.

Grow in peace...
