Well I do know that you are not billed for amps, just wattage, so if you are creating 3000w for example, regardless of how many amps it requires, you will be billed for 3000w. Were you ever running that much wattage on standard 120v?

Then there is the 5 years I spent trying to get a swamp cooler to work during summers because it was cheaper than A/C - last spring - I put in an A/C for the grow room. Cooled hoods, light movers - I think I did a pretty decent upgrade - and i was a wise investment -

I used to think $24 for a bag of dirt was outragious - till I paid for a bag of Fox Farms and saw the improvement in the garden - and the quality of my harvest.

Not everybody needs to use Fox Farms to ge a good harvest - but for me, I learned why one bag of dirt costs $24 and that bag of Miracle-Gro with water crystals is $4.95. The Miracle-Gro is a waste of money - and time! lol

Tools are another area - step up and get the good stuff - nuttin worse than thinking your pH tester is accurate and watching your garden going to hell - but it can't be pH cause I test it --- GUESS AGAIN ROCK!!!! That cheap assed tester is FUBAR

Cheap genetics are a drag too. Between hermi plants and average bud harvests, YEACH!!!! If I am going to spent 6 months growing a plant - I prefer harvesting summtin better than anybody else in my area code - that's why I gro.

High dollar genes can be a drag.

I borrowed a line from Forrest Gump and modified it accordingly - grown pot is like a box of chocolets - ya don't know what yer goina get till it's harvested.

Learning to clone - another wise investment.

Cheap genes can be great, expensive genes can be garbage... or at least nothing special. As for $24 bags of dirt, try something other than miracle grow. Even walmart bring potting soil is pretty good. I used to use supersoil (still do for other things) it works fine.

This is a really interesting thread! People should post more here, im sure theres many people rocking some form of hilarious ghetto setup that actually works. Please post it up here, I really want to see these.

guess you havent seen my cab then... lol better than a cardboard box tho

I reuse my perlite/vermiculite, it gets washed & dried a few times in between rotations, lights on at night in the summer and day in the winter. keep all non essential things off during peak power times.

I think most people run there lights at night in oz because of the heat but how do you heat your grow at night in the winter?

I Just made a grow room/tent in the attic and was think of alternative ways to run it and heat it in the winter because growing up there in summer maybe imposable i was thinking i could run the lights in the day and heat with gas at night by connecting the grow room to the flu/chimney.

does the honey really work in place of the clonex????

Stanley Blower fans ROCK! $60 local hardware mart,+ $2 6" flange= ventilation answer for any lamp!

Reuse my hydroton
Use efficient ballasts
Find a "wholesale" source for equip.
Monocropping is more efficient in my experience, although somewhat boring.
Square grow area with good reflective "wallpaper" = less light waste.

Even at full price, epuip is still a steal based on product value.

i use 400w HPS bulbs, but i don't buy the overpriced ones from the Hydro stores. There are a few websites ( for the States/Canada ) that have alternative bulbs, that are just a good....last just as long....and shine pretty much the same spectrum as the $70+++++ bulbs.

your girls shouldn't notice enough of a difference, so no effect of stress, yield or whatknot !

Craven Au....as per the heat in winter.....shall we address that in the DIY Steath Tent thread ??

Standard bulbs, price comparison shopping, grow tents, lighter on the fertilizers, and let the plants grow their natural shape.

i can show you a great way to make a cheap carbon filter. im going to take a quick pic of mine. the whole thing cost me about 30-38 bux including the fan...

if you use great stuff crack and gap filler it helps too with keeping the mesh in.
ive tested my filter with my cab, b4 my closet smelled like a cypress hill concert, now with my filter on all i smell is whatever my closet smelled like before i put my cab in.
