Simple quick question?...

helo I'm new grower and my first grow is almost ready to be harvested (about time). So, I wantd to know how to do all the harvesting job, do I have to cut some leaves? How do I dryit and how many time? can I cut the leaves of the plant during flowering stage?

well that's about it

also, my plant is outside in my back yard in a big pot, normal soil ( the one that all pots use) fertilize it every week with magic gro and water every 2-3 days, she's beautifully by the way.

there are some pics on my album

thanks all

see ya

me blunt is like, wicked yo!! owight
well what i 2-3 weeks before chopping down is

(1/3wk) take off all the fan leaves from the main stem and water them with a really strong nute regimen,

(2/3wk) take off the smaller fan leaves, the ones on the stems where your bud sites are water with plain water (idont know how organic your grow is but by plain water i mean its pH'd with some molasses BUT if you havent added molasses then its not a big deal whether you do or not, dont stress that part),

(3/3wk) trim the bud sites and the plant as much as you can, dont chop anything down, trim the plant as much as you can while its still in the pot!!! its much easier than (i think its good for small or big grows) trimming everything once the plant is down, but its growers choice.

*** remember to save all your trim in bag and keep it in your freezer, the big fan leaves that come off of the main stem i wouldnt bother with, but all those other leaves and trim that have obvious trich's on them should be put to good use later on

***you can look up various ways to make use of your trim on here, ISO wash, denatured alcohol wash, keif/hash collecting and pressing, honey oil or whatever. look through them all and see which method works best for you in your current situation.

as far as hanging time, what i do is just hang them up in a nice dry/cool/dark spot. ive hung my cannabis to dry with minimal airflow and it gets the job done. you want to give them 7-10 days BUT that all depends on where you have them, so no matter what youll have to check them periodically , but mainly after the first 7-10 days atleast.

you may want to but DONT take them down until the inner most bud is moist/dry, you really do want to hear that snap sound once you take them down BUT remember all of your buds are not the same size some will dry quicker than others. place your buds in your dark brown glass jar (best to use if you have) as they dry and burp for an hour a day until all are buds are in.

once all of that is done your pretty much curing the bids at that point. the rule is, the longer the stronger. what i did once my buds were cured to my satisfaction, i filled my stash jars, hid some away from myself in different spots (i have a crappy memory so its like christmas every time i find one!! lmao) and stored some in the fridge

***get yourself a radio shack hand held microscope if you dont have one already, so you can check for trichome maturity. my first grow was SSH, after the first grow i really didnt need to check trich's as knew that plant at that point. i always tell anyone that they should take the time to learn the plant they grow and as a grower its more knowledge that you have under your belt for the future.

***remember that the plant that you see now is gonna be at least half its size if not less than that once its started to dry/dried.

hope you enjoy what youve grown
peace

Mostly good info up there.... however if we dried for 10 days our stuff would be way over dried.

With RH in the house in the winter in the 30's and low 40's, it normally takes 4 or 5 days for us to dry good sized cola's. Then after that its another 2 or 3 days in jars in which its constantly monitored and not allowed to sit moist. After about a week of burping they dont need it anymore.

You can feel the outside of the weed and tell after 1 or 2 harvest if its ready to start getting burped... another good indication is if its smokable.... does the weed go out? Or can you smoke a bowl or joint easily?

If you dry it too much originally, there is really no burping needed, as all the water is gone. This isnt the worst thing in the world... much better than jarring wet weed, however it affects smooth/harshness of smoke.

Buds are placed in jars prior to being completely dry. If you allow them to sit in the closed jar while still moist, they'll mold and be useless. Burping is opening the jar every day to let them breathe. Many actually remove buds from jars, allow buds to breathe and then re pack the jars.

Because I do so little jar curing, I leave a straw in the middle of my jars and suck out stale air. Once a day the first week, twice a week the second week, once a week for 2 weeks and then once a month.

ok, what do you mean by this

"(1/3wk) take off all the fan leaves from the main stem and water them with a really strong nute regimen"

take out the big leafs 3 weeks before harvest, but the nute regimen, how would I do that if I already cut those leafs?

Sounds like a big typo to me. I doubt he's talking foliar feeding. I believe he meant, pull the large fans and water the medium the plant is in but, I believe most would use a reduced nute regimen if not no nutes at all. The idea is to get the plant to use up it's food stores as these can have a negative effect on taste after curing.

While some feed aggressively through flower to boost bud production, if harvested directly after such feeding the plants will smoke hot and have a gasoline/chemical smell and taste. The last week or two is generally fed much lower, and sometimes not at all beyond pH adjusted water, forcing the plant to use stored up food supplies. This is called "flushing" the plant so, when harvested, it's as chemical/mineral/nutrient free as possible. This results in a cooler/smoother/tastier smoke.

ok, got it!

so, about nutrients, do I have to use a diferent one in Flowering Stage? I actually use Magic Gro, are there a specific for flower stage?

I'll use it for one or two weeks though then I'll try the "flushing" method

Ferts for weed come in two basic ways; Formulas pre-blended for veg or bloom (such as GH FloraNova series) or, un-blended which you mix yourself 2:1 for veg, 1:2 for flower (such as GH Flora series).

Magic Gro is not food. It's used to make food more accessible to the plant.

hey freezerboy, the leaves of my plant are turning yellow, is that normal? the bud are stil green and the leaves that suround them are green as well, but the other that doesn't have any flower are turning yellow.

Is cause the winter season or maybe is my plant is sick...

what do I do?

Changing colors at this time are most likely an indication that the plants food stores are used up. Time to chop. Unless you're south of the equator, it's too late for outdoor growing now anyway.

undertood, so, for the next grow, what's the best time to start? (by start i mean put the seed in the soil and all that).

P.D. I live south california in Mexicali, is very hot in here, but also very cold in winter

I've been growing indoors so long, I'm the wrong guy to ask. I want to say April. I do remember one patch of 6 seedlings that got wiped out in one evening by snails. After that I started plants under a shop light in the attic and transplanted when they were about a foot tall.
